Come Saturday Morning: Martinez, Christie, and the Hispanic Vote

By: Saturday April 19, 2014 6:45 am

The Republicans have managed to field a Hispanic politician, Susana Martinez, who up until now was considered the GOP’s best shot at winning over the Latino bloc. Her charisma even won her comparisons with another up-and-coming Republican governor, Chris Christie.

Well, she’s still drawing the Christie comparisons now, but not for the best of reasons.

Immigration Reform’s Big Obstacle: The Important Senate Races are Very White

By: Monday April 14, 2014 8:59 am

Democrats winning back the House is extremely unlikely since the GOP has huge structural advantage there, so the big fight will be over the Senate. There Republicans have a chance of picking up enough seats to win the chamber — and almost all of the most competitive races are in overwhelmingly white states.

Latinos and the GOP: It’s the Intolerance, Stupid

By: Saturday November 10, 2012 4:00 pm

The real hope for bipartisanship in the next Congress, at least in the afterglow of the election, is on the issue of immigration. By: Thursday August 16, 2012 7:50 am

It’s only the first day, and we’ll have to wait for the numbers over a longer time horizon; but if these lines and these stories are any indication, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program inaugurated yesterday was a wild success.

And US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced yesterday that the immigrants will have to pay the US government $465 for the privilege.
