Back when the House Commerce Committee had its first hearing on the BP Disaster, Rep. Henry Waxman revealed some inconsistencies about the negative pressure test BP did on the well before it moved to close off the well. Waxman has now offered an interim report on what happened.

I seem to remember an analogy during the health care debate from Tom Harkin, about the Affordable Care Act being a starter home. It wasn’t perfect, he said, but over time, Congress would add to that home, and fix it where it’s broken, and eventually create a fine stately mansion where the starter home once stood.
At least in the near term, there’s no way that’s happening.

“I don’t like the idea of a blank check,” said Waxman, the chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “What’s even more troubling about this is that Fannie and Freddie are given the imprimatur of being a government entity when they’re not. Henry Waxman, chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced at a constituent meeting Sunday that he was headed to Washington today to begin discussions with Senate leaders and the White House, aimed at reconciling health care legislation to find a final bill which can pass both chambers of Congress. “The differences on the health bill will be hard to reconcile,” Waxman said.
