It is very difficult to make a properly informed decision and that is a problem stemming from the structure of the law. The law gave insurance companies incredible discretion in design plans and networks making real comparison complicated for regular people. Even the best website design can only do so much to elevate the stress and hassle of dealing with this inherent complexity.

While Healthcare.gov had a very rocky first two months things worked much better in December. According to the Obama administration 975,000 people selected plans on the federally run exchange this month. This brings total signup on the federal exchange to 1.1 million. When the state run exchanges are added in the total number of people selecting exchange coverage is now around 2 million.

Today is the new deadline to select a health insurance plan via Healthcare.gov if you want your coverage to start January first.

Problems with the Healthcare.gov website as well as low enrollment means significantly fewer people are going to be covered come January than the Obama administration planned, so they are doing everything they can to maximize the numbers.

While Heathcare.gov’s first two months were a disaster, the federal exchange’s performance was about average when compared to all states that tried to created their own.

The Obama administration has managed to make some significant improvements to Healthcare.gov but it is still not working as well as the administration has led people to believe. The months of work on Healthcare.gov are bearing fruit. According to the Obama administration the site now works much better than it did in October. Load time has been improved, capacity has been increased, and error rates are down. When the site launched it was down over half the time. Now the site is up over 90 percent of the time.

The Obama administration is hoping that they can get Healthcare.gov working so 80 percent of the people trying to get new exchange coverage online will be able to do so successfully.

The Obama administration has finally released enrollment numbers for the Affordable Care Act and they are not good.
According to the administration just over 100,000 people across the country have selected an exchange plan, although many have not actually made a final purchase by paying for the first month.
