Call Today to End Prohibition Tomorrow

Right this very moment, volunteers are logging calls by the dozens to voters in Colorado, Oregon and Washington in support of marijuana legalization ballot initiatives. Imagine: today could be the last day of the pre-prohibition era! They’re also calling for Arkansas’ medical marijuana initiative Issue 5, and California’s Prop 37 to label genetically engineered products.

To date, Firedoglake activists have contacted over 7,000 voters across these 5 states, and we have folks lined up to continue making calls for the rest of today and tomorrow until the polls close.

California GMO-Labeling Initiative Tightens in the Polls

The sole reason this once popular initiative might not win approve is that the food, seed and chemical industries have gone all out to kill it. The opposition has been claiming it would significantly raise food prices even though GMO labeling requirements are already common in other countries.

The relevant industries have spent millions to keep costumers ignorant about what is in their food.

GMO Labeling and Three Strikes Reform Polling at Over 50 percent in California

There are 11 measures qualified for the ballot in California, but new polling by the California Business Roundtable and Pepperdine University shows only five initiatives polling over 50 percent. Of those five which have a decent chance of passing, the three most noteworthy initiatives have to do with the labeling of genetically modified food, reforming the state’s notorious three strikes law, and union political spending.
