Virginia Republican Party officials on Tuesday ordered their Mecklenburg County affiliate to remove photos portraying President Obama as a witch doctor, a caveman and a thug from its Facebook page.

The altered photos have been on the Mecklenburg County Republican Committee’s page for months but drew attention outside the rural southwestern enclave after a luncheon event this week with Republican Senate candidate George Allen.

On election night the state I’m going to be watch is Virginia, which fortunately will be one of the first states to report. How Virginia goes will probably tell us who has won the evening.

Jim Webb, who squeaked out a victory for Senate in Virginia in 2006, will leave the Senate after one term, adding another to the many opportunities for Republicans in the Senate in 2012.

And guess what? Mr. Macaca is back.

It is amazing that at the same time Democrats were failing to find anyone to run against South Dakota Republican Sen. John Thune, they were actively working to convince a Democrat to not run a statewide campaign for federal office.
