On Thursday the ACLU of California announced that Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) would chair a panel to resolve the issues needed to legalize marijuana in California. Late last year Newsom publicly endorse marijuana legalization and earlier this year told the California Democratic Party that it should back the idea.

California Lt. Governor Gaven Newsom (D) dedicated a large segment of his speech at the state Democratic convention this weekend urging the party to support marijuana legalization. He called on his follow politicians to come out of the closet and publicly support reform.

Every time a prominent elected official speaks out in support of marijuana legalization it is important because it helps reduce the stigma and it makes it easier for other politicians to “come out of the closet” on this issue, but Newsom’s endorsement of legalization is especially significant because of his position.

In a major development, California’s Attorney General, Kamala Harris, has broken off from the proposed 50-state settlement over foreclosure fraud. If the talks weren’t dead already, and if you’ve read this space you’d know that I think they were, this surely puts them to bed.

Our fair city of San Francisco plans to suspend the Constitution for the Olympic Torch relay April 9th. I know SF is leftist, but even here – do our leaders really want to surrender the nation’s Constitution to the Communist Chinese leaders without firing a shot?
