Good morning! Looks like Bob Schieffer is still all a-Benghazied. And President Obama’s new chief of staff is making the rounds today. Aaand one more Republican rebuttal to the State of the Union, this one’s from Paul Ryan. How many do they get? FDL Book Salon this afternoon is Abraham Lincoln and his love of [...]

Hi, just firing up the Pancake-omatic here so I can make you breakfast (Marion deserves a day off every now and then, no?). Can someone set the table?
The main topic on the shows this morning is the upcoming State of the Union speech, which of course we will be covering Tuesday evening.

Ahh, what a super morning! Football, love it or hate it, always good eats. FDL Book Salon is Who Stole the American Dream, be here. Tonight has emptywheel, digby and McJoan Virtually Speaking. Tomorrow’s Movie Night is We Are Legion, The Story of the Hacktavists. There’s some football wedged into today’s shows, but it is [...]

Codebreaker is Movie Night Monday’s offering, the story of Alan Turing. He was a giant of a mind and it’s shocking that he was driven to suicide at the relatively young age of 41 just because he was gay. He was frank about his sexuality, all but negating the concern that that information could be used as blackmail against him; nevertheless he underwent chemical castration (good god). I can’t begin to imagine what we as a society lost because of of this idiotic prejudice. We owe him so much.

This afternoon we have The Amistad Rebellion for FDL Book Salon. Dday and Stuart Zechman will be Virtually Speaking in the evening. And tomorrow evening Lisa presents The DVD OF TIKI, Vol. 1 “Paradise Lost” – Mai Tais all around!
As for the listings: “When was the last time John McCain *wasn’t* on the Sunday shows?” Peterr asks. Be thankful for small favors.

Hi there. Well, I guess there won’t be any talk of the Platinum Coin this morning, after all. So you may as well come join us for some sexytime this afternoon instead. WASHINGTON JOURNAL. ABC’S THIS WEEK: Foreign Policy Roundtable: Armed Services Committee member Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), ranking member of the Foreign Relations [...]

A happy winter morning to all – the sun is going to shine here, I’m sure, it’s peeking through the clouds. And like you, I’m looking forward to seeing what Marion brings us for breakfast.
Once again, looking at the lineup, our Peterr sees through:
“I’m struck by the absence of Boehner, Cantor, and other big GOP names from the House. Mitch McConnell is out there from the Senate, and there are a number of GOP House newcomers, but the Powers That Be from The People’s House are conspicuous by their absence.
I almost get the idea that the GOP House leadership doesn’t really want to talk about anything that happened last week — the Sandy debacle, the election of the speaker, and other divisions in their ranks — as we look ahead to the debt ceiling mess, the sequester fight, and the continuing continuing resolution battle.”
Tune in, turn on…

Happy (almost) New Year! Hard to believe it is already December 30th, *sigh*. But of course next year will be bigger and better! Right? As for the listings: Candy Crowley at least has Ag Secretary Vilsack on about the Dairy Cliff, but an entire roundtable on Horse Race 2016? – already? – killmenow. Over at [...]

Merry Christmas, and may you celebrate Festivus with the rest of us today.
Tune in later today for the FDL Book Salon discussion on Howard Zinn and his speeches. It’s digby and KagroX Virtually Speaking tonight. And Lisa Derrick’s Movie Night theatre Monday presents the schlock treat Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, who will be Forrester and Erhardt?
On the talking head shows today it’s the NRA and gun control, or if you prefer, gun safety; plus the continuing drama of the so-called Fiscal Cliff. Wayne LaPierre appears on Meet the Press. Host David Gregory tweeted a request for questions earlier this week, we’ll see how tough they are and he is in the interview. Culture of Truth will provide the definitive transcript of the encounter later today in The Bobblespeak Translations. Asa Hutchinson, LaPierre’s new-found henchman and head of the NRA’s new solution to the problem of gun massacres, the “National School Shield Program” (that does have a rather Luntzian appeal, doesn’t it?), appears on a couple shows as well. Not sure how a school shield of any kind would protect movie goers and mall shoppers, though. If only more of us had bigger guns…
