Apparently the joke is on anyone who gave time or treasure to National Organization for Marriage in Rhode Island, the group that has spent the past five years trying to block passage of Rhode Island’s new marriage equality law.

In an unexpected move the National Organization for Marriage in Rhode Island, the organization dedicated to barring same-sex couples from civil marriage, is now backing a proposed state constitutional amendment that would not only legalize marriage for same-sex couples, but enshrine that right in the state’s constitution.

Talk about too little too late. With the Rhode Island marriage bill expected to pass in the state House later this afternoon, NOM – Rhode Island has just announced that “Sen. Ciccone introduces legislation to put SSM before voters”.
