The number of Mitt Romney supporters who are “extremely” or “very” enthusiastic about voting this November has dropped significantly according to Gallup. Two months ago 56% of Romney supporters were highly enthusiastic about voting, but now it is down to just 43%, a 13 point drop. Enthusiasm for President Obama has also fallen, though not as much.

Compared to John McCain in 2008 during his contest primary, there is relatively little enthusiasm for any of the remaining Republican candidates this cycle. From Gallup.

The one silver lining for Democrats is that this Republican Presidential primary hasn’t made regular Republicans all that excited about this upcoming election either. Republican enthusiasm is on par with what it was at this time in the 2004 and 2000 election.

Democrats and Democratic leaning independents are not enthusiastic about voting in the upcoming Presidential election according to Gallup polling. There is some very bad news for President Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party when it comes to the issue of base engagement in the upcoming election.
