The Ebay release says that PayPal data, which is encrypted, is stored on a separate server that was not compromised. So the “oops” of the day goes to PayPal for posting a notice telling Ebay users to change their passwords before Ebay put out its own announcement. The page apparently said “eBay Inc. To Ask All eBay Users To Change Passwords” but had no information other than the words “place holder text.” It was later taken down, causing even more confusion.
