342 Palestinians, 5 Israelis Killed in Gaza Conflict; Media Disinfo or No Info

By: Saturday July 19, 2014 5:00 pm

342 Palestinians (80% of them civilians) and 5 Israelis (2 of them civilians) have now died during Israel’s assault on Gaza. The news report notes the following:

“The increasing number of children killed in the conflict is causing a growing outcry, with a joint statement from the NGOs War Child and Defence for Children International saying more children had been killed than militants.”

Tens of thousands protested Israel’s actions in London, but the BBC decided to say nothing about it (it did eventually write something about the protest, here), according to the Respect Party website (screenshot provided). Neither did Murdoch’s Sky News, but that’s not surprising.

Back in July 2012, long before Edward Snowden’s leaks heightened the general public’s concern about online privacy, then Wall Street Journal reporter Julia Angwin set off on a picaresque quest to find some kind of online privacy. The chronicle of that quest, Dragnet Nation: A Quest for Privacy, Security, and Freedom in a World of Surveillance, serves as a kind of user’s guide for our new dragnet world.

Syria, Disinformation and the Dying Empire

The problem with having lost my faith in the institutions of Democracy, is that I find myself in disbelief of anyone advancing an agenda such as is being done for US war against Syria. How do we separate the information from the disinformation? But they used chemical weapons against their people didn’t they? Well, if you take the unknown evidence presented by Israeli Intelligence at face value, maybe.

FDL Book Salon Welcomes Alexander Zaitchik, Common Nonsense: Glenn Beck and the Triumph of Ignorance

By: Sunday July 4, 2010 2:00 pm

The biggest Big Liar on the American scene today is Glenn Beck. Two million Americans watch his show on FOX every day. Many millions more listen to his radio show.

How big a liar are we talking about here? Try this one on for size:

“We will reclaim the civil rights moments — because, dammit, we were the people who did it in the first place.”
— Glenn Beck, May 26, 2010

Gobstopping, isn’t it — how you can just rewrite a dozen of most agonizing, contentious, and important years in American history in one sentence like that? Where do you even begin to set the record straight?
