ALEC, CSG, ExxonMobil Fracking Fluid “Disclosure” Model Bill Failing by Design

By: Wednesday December 5, 2012 5:30 pm

Last year, a hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) chemical fluid disclosure “model bill” was passed by both the Council of State Governments (CSG) and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). It proceeded to pass in multiple states across the country soon thereafter, but as Bloomberg recently reported, the bill has been an abject failure with regards to “disclosure.”

That was by design, thanks to the bill’s chief author, ExxonMobil.

By: Friday March 19, 2010 8:45 pm

Jane has gone over this, but what Bart Stupak hinted at today has apparently come true. Stupak’s four-page “enrollment corrections” bill will get some sort of vote in the House as part of the overall health care bill.

Pro-Choice Caucus Pretending to Study Senate Bill

By: Wednesday March 17, 2010 8:01 am

People can choose to support the bill despite this, the biggest rollback in abortion access since Roe v. Wade, on the grounds that increases in total health care access will limit abortions, or because women’s health will improve, or whatever other reason. But don’t pretend to “study” the issue. We know exactly what the Senate bill would accomplish, taking a legitimate medical procedure and making it taboo.

Obama Against Choice

By: Tuesday March 16, 2010 1:55 pm

Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin holds down a tough seat for pro-choice Democrats. She’s in an R+9 district, and that’s a tough thing to do for a pro-choice woman.

But the Democratic establishment are now out to torpedo any woman who sticks up for choice.

If Obama wants to run a campaign within the Democratic party against a woman’s right to choose, let’s do it in public. Let’s know where everyone stands.

Contact Colorado media and tell them to ask DeGette to release the letter.

Sign the petition, and donate to run online ads in DeGette’s district – stand up for a woman’s right to choose as part of the Democratic party platform. If this bill goes through without a fight from the pro-choice community, that’s it. Turn out the lights. It’s all over.

Following the passage of the House health care bill, the outcry against Bart Stupak’s amendment from pro-choice members of Congress was stentorious. Rep. Diana DeGette and Rep. Louise Slaughter co-authored a letter signed by 41 members of Congress, which says quite clearly:

We will not vote for a conference report that contains language that restricts women’s right to choose any further than current law.

Who Has Signed On to DeGette Letter to Block the Stupak Amendment?

By: Wednesday November 11, 2009 12:55 pm

Rep. Diana DeGette got a lot of publicity for generating a letter vowing to vote against any bill that returns to the House from conference committee with the Stupak amendment intact. She claims to have at least 41 names on that letter, more than enough to block the bill from going forward. But days after [...]
