Why did they make Bradley spend the night naked? What could he have done to make them do that? He’s been in his jail cell 23 hours a day without talking to anyone, so I don’t see how he had a chance to do anything to make the jail people mad.

David House: Obama Channels Nixon With New Charges Against Bradley Manning |
| By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday March 2, 2011 3:45 pm |
David House: “Through WikiLeaks we have been given direct evidence that the White House openly lies to congress and the American people in order to achieve political ends. Richard Nixon, in an attempt to stifle government transparency, once called Ellsberg “the most dangerous man in America” and accused him of “providing aid and comfort to the enemy.” Today we see the Obama administration continuing the legacy Nixon started by declaring whistleblowers as enemies of the state. It is a sad and dangerous day for transparency advocates everywhere.”
The Disinformation Campaign Bank of America Considered |
| By: emptywheel Wednesday February 9, 2011 4:15 pm |
Wikileaks has posted the presentation three security companies–Palantir, HBGary Federal, and Berico Technologies–made to Bank of America, proposing to help it respond to Wikileaks.
in addition to proposing to conduct cyber attacks on Wikileaks’ European-based infrastructure (complete with a picture of WL’s bomb shelter-housed servers), the proposal appears to recommend that these companies be paid to troll social media, like Twitter, to not only “identify risky behavior of employees” but also, presumably, “push the radical and reckless nature of wikileaks activities.” You know–the kind of trolling we often see targeted at Glenn (and in recent days targeted against David House, who was also listed in this presentation).

Bradley Manning: Punitive Psychiatric Status Remains, but Hopeful About Youth Uprising in Tunisia and Egypt |
| By: Jane Hamsher Monday January 31, 2011 9:40 am |
Bradley Manning’s friend David House was initially quite concerned about Manning’s state of mind, and felt he was beginning to exhibit some of the damaging symptoms of prolonged isolation including emotional withdrawal and impaired cognitive function. Bradley seemed slow to respond when they spoke, and could not process information as quickly as he normally did. Bradley became excited and engaged, however, when David mentioned the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt.
Judge Napolitano on Bradley Manning and David House: “KGB-Like Government Tactics are Obscenely Un-American” |

Maximum harassment, thuggery and intimidation on the part of the Quantico Military Police, who received orders to do so from above. Who knew exactly what they were going to do the moment we pulled up to the gate, when they had a prepared document ready for us to immediately sign saying we would not photograph or videotape anything they planned to do to us. But their actions were specifically targeted at the person who was trying to see Bradley Manning, not me, the owner of the car.
Quantico Brig Commander Continues to Abuse Authority, Defy Medical Experts in Manning Detention |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday January 25, 2011 12:00 pm |
Last night anonymous military officials admitted to NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski that Quantico Brig Commander James Averhart placed Bradley Manning on suicide watch as a way to punish him for failure to obey an order.
The admission comes after Manning’s friend David House was detained by military police and prevented from visiting him at Quantico last weekend. Jake Tapper of ABC News asked Robert Gibbs about the incident yesterday during a White House press briefing, and if the administration is concerned about the way Manning is being treated. Gibbs referred him to “the authorities that are holding him [Manning].”
Military Officials Admit Bradley Manning Put on Suicide Watch to Punish Him |
| By: Trevor Fitzgibbon Tuesday January 25, 2011 8:30 am |
Military officials admitted today that Quantico Brig Commander James Averhart improperly classified Bradley Manning as a “suicide risk” in order to impose harsh conditions on him as punishment for failure to follow orders. Averhart’s order overruled the opinion of three brig psychiatrists who said Manning was not at risk.
The statement comes one day after David House, Manning’s only regular visitor, was detained for two hours by military police and prevented from seeing Manning until visiting hours were over.
Jane on MSNBC: Bradley Manning’s Abuse Will Only Stop When People Ask Questions |
| By: Michael Whitney Monday January 24, 2011 3:40 pm |
Firedoglake.com’s Jane Hamsher went on MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan Show this afternoon to discuss Bradley Manning’s imprisonment at Quantico Marine base, and how she and David House were detained at Quantico for two hours yesterday.
Hamsher explained that the government’s goal is to completely isolate Bradley Manning. When Dylan Ratigan asked if she feared her appearance would further endanger Manning, Hamsher replied that “the only thing that’s going to stop the abuse of Bradley Manning is when people start asking questions.”
Goal of Quantico Incident Was To Abuse Bradley Manning and Intimidate David House |
| By: Jane Hamsher Sunday January 23, 2011 6:15 pm |
There is no doubt in my mind that the primary objective of everything that happened today at Quantico was to keep Bradley Manning from having the company of his only remaining visitor, and intimidate him from ever returning.
