While much of the news next week will be dominated by how the Supreme Court could affect the future of health care in this country through its ruling on the Affordable Care Act, I thought now may be a good time to talk about how future health care developments could affect the Supreme Court. What if Supreme Court Justice with life-time jobs could live to be 200 years old?


Republican Debt Ceiling Power Play Would Stand Constitution on its Head

House and Senate Republicans apparently now hate the Constitution. The GOP feels despite winning control of only the House, but not the Senate or the White House, they should actually be given the power to unilaterally impose massive change. Since they failed to win enough elections to rightfully get this power under the Constitution, they are now claiming they will use a quirk in the system for financing our debt to destroy our entire economy, unless power is seceded to them.

When Everyone’s to Blame for the Shutdown, No One Is to Blame

Polling shows the public divided on whether to blame Democrats or Republicans. The establishment media doesn’t want to be seen as choosing sides. And since there is an even split of powers in our Constitution, unlike many other democracies, there isn’t the clear accountability of being able to point to the party that controls this one specific chamber/office as the obvious offender.
