The New York Times front page editors waste our time with an above the fold piece in which Peter Baker ponders how unusual it was for President Obama to say “I was wrong,” since none of his predecessors could manage much more than “mistakes were made.” But wrong about what?

Conservatism, it appears, is being Reinvented, and this is a Fun Thing.

Conservatism: it never fails. It can only be failed. And Karl Rove and George Bush, tossed into the GOP memory hole by Shirley Devine, are conservativism’s latest betrayers.

The conservatives are trying very hard to scrape the remains of their perfected ideology off the windshield before voters recognize it. The extent to which they succeed is another catastrophe that will foul up the scene, and this country. We need to make the point as much as possible; the worst president ever, George W. Bush, was a real conservative, and succeeded in his ambition to achieve conservative principles. We are barely surviving the effects of conservatism now, if, that is, we do survive as a nation.

Why do smart Republicans like Senator Bob Corker forget everything they know about the financial markets when they get to Washington? There really isn’t any hope for bipartisanship in financial matters if he can’t see the need for change.

Ho hum. Another day, another prominent conservative setting up a conservative media organ to fight the alleged “liberal media” myth that was debunked ages ago.

Today, the House Financial Services Committee passed an amendment to their financial regulatory reform bill that would mandate an audit of the Federal Reserve. The Paul-Grayson amendment, named for its chief sponsors, Reps. Ron Paul and Alan Grayson, passed the committee by a count of 43-26.
