Bloodshed in Congo can be directly connected to the latest form of colonialism advanced by Western countries—the mining of resources for electronics and military industries. Over six million people have been killed in war over control of resources in the country since 1996.

France and eight other countries, including the United States, are escalating an intervention in the African country of Mali. The offensive, according to French authorities, is being mounted to target Islamic extremists or al Qaeda-linked rebels who have “grabbed more territory in Mali, inching closer to the capital.”

This story highlights Camp Lemmonier, the United States military base in Djibouti where drones land or take off around sixteen times a day, and is reportedly the first time the US military has confirmed publicly drones are present at this base.
