October: Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is a busy month. Schools have settled into the day-to-day routines. The sports world is busy with the MLB Play-offs; NFL, college, and high school football seasons are in the mix; the NHL has started its season; and NBA basketball training camps have started. College basketball has started having “midnight madness.” The news and weather shows are providing fall foliage reports.

October is also the “awareness” month for two causes that I support very strongly – Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness. I


Pull Up a Chair for Christy

So far there have been tests, surgery, tests, tests, and more tests all leading up to the big decision on treatment, demon chemo. A not very pleasant undertaking, as you can imagine. And then to put the anti-cherry on top of her anti-sundae, she just lost a dear aunt this week. So she is going to need a whole lotta love and support to help her through the worst of what’s to come – and here’s what we can do. Let’s give her that love and support – and most importantly for now, laughs.

Calling Out Spin is What We Do

Very Serious Journalists, like James Risen, may look down their noses at bloggers, imagining us at our keyboards in our pajamas. They can laugh, but the kind of journalism practiced by FDL is running rings around them. “He said/she said” may work for the Village media, but FDL aims to sort out who’s right and why, and then tries to make things better. If FDL’s version of journalism appeals to you, we could use a little financial support to make things even better down the road.
