Unlike many, Rush Limbaugh found Pope Francis’ rebuke to neoliberalism entirely out of step with Christian values. In fact, Limbaugh claimed it was “pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope.” Which is stunning on a number of levels.

Opus Dei, call your office. Pope Francis, in his first major writing since taking office, has issued a rigorous and comprehensive denunciation of Neoliberalism. Called his Apostolic Exhortation, the writing makes clear that Pope Francis regards modern capitalism and the political movement promoting it to be antithetical to the teachings of Jesus.

In announcing its final rule concerning the Affordable Care Act’s guarantee of access to birth control without a co-pay for all American women—including the Catholics and non-Catholics who work in religiously sponsored schools, hospitals, and social service agencies—the Obama administration bent over backwards to accommodate the Church’s concerns.

Sometimes governors, especially Republicans, talk about how much religion has guided them in the lives while never actually revealing their denomination. It takes a bit of searching to confirm that they’re actually Protestant. John Kasich and Rick Scott are good examples of this.

This is my story of getting an abortion in Texas, of my rights being exercised. Even with the laws in place to convince me otherwise, I still made the right decision no matter how much it hurt. I believe I have the right to go through this painful experience without paternalistic intervention “for my own good” as I am solely responsible for myself and my body.
