Saturday Art: San Diego’s Chicano Park

Chicano Park in San Diego’s Barrio Logan displays one of the largest assemblages of public murals in North America. The monolithic pillars, the pylons of the Coronado Bay Bridge, have been transformed into an outdoor museum of art and history. These awe inspiring murals are giant mirrors of Chicano Mexicano history, and a tribute to the force of community.

 

Overpass Light Brigade Is Challenging Free Speech Restrictions

Last Monday, I attended the Austin Overpass Light Brigade’s fourth gathering. As previously reported on Firedoglake, the group had been shut down by police at its previous two attempts. The message on election eve was DO MORE THAN VOTE, and occupiers came prepared for police interference.
