In an email claiming credit for stalling the Illinois marriage equality bill, National Organization for Marriage’s Brian Brown stated today that “NOM put everything we had into this fight”. However, “everything” was reportedly only $125,000, according to NOM’s own emails and blog post as well as blog posts from another anti-gay organization focused on this debate.

In the wake of the hate-motivated murder last week of Mark Carson in New York City’s Greenwich Village — just one in a string of anti-transgender and anti-gay hate crimes plaguing the city, LGBT rights activist Scott Wooledge challenged LGBT rights opponents to repudiate the violence:

Marriage equality opponents have ramped up violent rhetoric, and anti-gay physical violence has sharply increased, in the wake of the recent approval of a marriage equality bill by the French Parliament.

I am almost at a loss for words to express the level of contempt I have for the National Organization for Marriage and its most high-profile purveyors of hate and intolerance, Brian Brown and Maggie Gallagher. Always couching their arguments as protecting “traditional marriage” and the family when crowing on the media, NOM most recently tried to work its magic working behind closed doors trying to drive a wedge between the black (and Latino) community and LGBTs in order to kill pro-marriage equality ballot initiatives.

Failing miserably at the voting booth in November, Brian Brown sees fertile ground in countries where existing as a gay human being is against the law and/or where culturally, the concept of someone violently beating, maiming or killing someone based on real or perceived sexual orientation is common place.

Remember the grand plan that Brian Brown unveiled last year to “reverse same-sex marriage in New York”? He probably hopes you don’t, because he can’t deliver on that bill of goods.

No food reward, no dice. That’s the message that Chick-fil-A’s anti-equality customers have sent Brian Brown of National Organization for Marriage in the wake of Brown’s attempt to ride the tail feathers of “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” into fundraising heaven.

Last week, Starbucks joined the long list of Washington employers endorsing Washington’s marriage equality bill. The Starbucks statement reflects their years-long commitment to equality. I sent them a “thank you” note, and they replied.

On the National Organization for Marriage’s blog, NOM president Brian Brown is raising a fuss about a disastrous debate he had on the Fox Network show Stossel two weeks ago.
