I love the new homophobia. In the vein of Chik-Fil-a, bigoted establishments welcome gay dollars, but want to condemn at the same time. In New Bern, NC on December 4, Ariel and Shawnee McPhail walked into The Stingray Café, sat down and had their meal, and had this handed to them by the restaurant’s owner, Ed McGovern — after they had paid and were leaving.

Stories like this make me sad and curious — how many people in the U.S. are as intellectually challenged as this man? Has the nation been so dumbed down that it’s not difficult to come across countless stories of jack@ssery like this just casually surfing the news?

The tide has turned and hate and junk science purveyors like Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association need to be prepared to be tossed off the air (CNN’s Carol Costello had enough of his foolishness the other day). Now Fischer is foaming at the mouth — and TEH HOMO is to blame.

Foley & Lardner, a major DC law firm, is rolling out the red carpet to honor one of its partners — Cleta Mitchell — later this month at a big shindig in Tampa. Many right wingers will be there to partake in the salute to her: Jim DeMint (SC), James Inhofe (OK), Marco Rubio (FL), Rick Santorum, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, Al Cardenas, Chairman of American Conservative Union and Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice-President, of National Rifle Association, among other luminaries.

You can thank Republican Veep prospect, Governor Bobby “the exorcist” Jindal for this development. Millions of tax dollars under his voucher program will go to “save” the low-wealth and middle class kids from Louisiana’s horrible public schools to private schools run by fundies teaching from textbooks rife with bible-based bullsh*ttery.

How do we stop the ignorance, hate, & violence directed against people just trying to live their lives in peace (& in theory, equality)? A simple question.

The purveyor of waffle fries with a side of bible-based bigotry has been for ages engaging in perfectly legal and ethically questionable ways of ensuring its franchisees adhere to their “Christian” point of view business model. And this was long before Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy decided to open his piehole about marriage equality.

We’ve seen epic denials from pols that are hall-of-fame worthy when they are caught in a sex scandal with someone of the same sex — think Larry ” I never have been gay“ Craig , or Bob “black gay panic” Allen come to mind — but we’ve got a real winner today. Not only do we have a rare case of a female politician in the maelstrom of a lesbian sex scandal, but she’s (ahem) coming out of the box swinging away with an UNBELIEVABLE reason why the story cannot possibly be true.

I’m so sick of rule of the wingnuts. In legislatures around the country, low-life teabaggers, bigots, know-nothings, and deeply insecure individuals managed to get elected. Now they are empowered to be full-out womb controllers, to attack the rights of low-wealth residents to vote, to rile up fear of black and brown people…the list goes on and on.

I’m not sure how these Goons for God can claim any event featuring a cross burning ISN’T racist, but that’s how toxic the word has become, even to stone-cold Christian Identity white supremacists who are putting on a pastors conference for “white Christians only.”
