ReleaseTheMemos.com: Tracking Obama’s Promise of Transparency on Targeted Killings

By: Thursday March 28, 2013 1:00 pm

President Obama finally promised to release legal memos on the Targeted Killing program to members of congressional intelligence committees on February 6, 2013, after over 21 formal requests from legislators.

But members of these committees have so far only been given limited access to 4 memos and the most important, including those addressing the government’s criteria for marking a ‘suspected terrorist’ for death or listing the countries in which we are conducting strikes, remain secret.

These memos are too important and the President must be held to his promise.

We won’t stop fighting until all 11 of these critical memos on the Targeted Killing program are made fully public, and we hope you’ll share ReleaseTheMemos.com to help us keep the public’s eye on the release of these memos.

By: Thursday March 3, 2011 3:00 pm

I don’t know that anything has the potential to galvanize public opinion on the forgotten war in Afghanistan. But if there’s anything out there, the ambush of nine boys collecting firewood would qualify.

About half of Californians support Prop. 19 to legalize and regulate marijuana, but only a tiny percentage of the state’s House Reps do, according to Huffington Post. Three of 53 publicly say they support Prop. 19. What’s going on with the others?

Why Is the White House Holding Conference Calls with Barbara Lee Every Day?

By: Thursday April 8, 2010 9:30 am

I jumped on a White House conference call with Barbara Lee (D-CA), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, yesterday. The topic was the youth summer job program, which the House has passed but the Senate has yet to take up. I get an advisory in my inbox that there’s another call with Lee today, where she’ll be joined by Rep. Laura Richardson (D-CA) and Biden economic advisor Jared Bernstein.

A Constitutional Amendment for a Market-Based House and Senate

By: Thursday April 1, 2010 12:35 pm

At present we have an inefficient federal legislative branch with members chosen on the basis of geography and population. What is needed is a bold refashioning of government — a constitutional amendment to replace our present gridlocked mess with a far more elegant and effective system based on the proven efficiencies and priorities of The Market.
