when the Family Research Council, the American Family Association (two groups mentioned in the email), and their allies (which includes Fox News “cultural reporter” Todd Starnes) complain about this letter – which they had been doing ad nauseum, they claimed that the Rich was attacking “Christian” groups or ministries. Starnes even blames Obama and says he is “religiously cleansing” the military.

Paul Cameron is a discredited researcher who has been either censured or dismissed from several medical associations (including the American Sociological Association and the American Psychological Association) for his bad research methodologies and outrageously homophobic claims, including the claim that gays stuff gerbils up their rectums.

I was going to write a long-winded piece on Tim Tebow canceling his appearance at the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas due to controversy about the head of the church’s (Robert Jeffres) vicious comments about gays, Jews, Mormons, and Catholics. But in researching that post, something else caught my attention and I just had to make you aware of it.

Because of the controversy involving Obama’s inauguration and the pastor (Louie Giglio) whose invitation was rescinded because of his anti-gay feelings, the religious right has a new victimhood spin. According to the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins.

As far as I am concerned, it’s always a good thing when religious right figures trot their hypocrisies out in the public square.

My only concern is that we as a community don’t take advantage of this more.

It galls me that when there are human tragedies of the kind that occurred in the Aurora, Colorado movie theatre this past week that so-called “Christians” turn up on the airwaves not with words of consolation and spiritual solace, but messages of fear and damnation. What pathetic, sad lives people like Truth in Action Ministries’ Jerry Newcombe lead. The cleric bleated this unforgivable crap on an American Family Association radio show:

For all of their talking about morality and following God’s laws, religious right groups seem to throw these things out of the window when it doesn’t suit their purposes. Now they have a new target – Sandra Fluke. Fluke, who was venomously attacked by Rush Limbaugh two weeks ago for her testimony in front of Congress regarding contraception, now has members of the religious right smearing her name.
