America’s Failed Mole-by-Mole Trade Policy

Last week several groups, including the United Steelworkers, petitioned the federal government to whack the latest trade mole – illegally traded auto parts from China.

With President Obama announcing creation of a new trade enforcement unit in his State of the Union Address, the feds probably will investigate. But even if they whack down the auto parts mole, experience has shown a new mole will pop up.

As of post time, it appears SuperBowl XLV will still be played in Reykjavík Texas despite the spate of injuries to innocent plaintiffs, er fans, from ice falling off of Cowboys Stadium. SuperBowls should be played in reasonable and warm climates, not the frozen tundra of Texas. As Dallas born and bred Stevie Ray Vaughn knows, the Texas Flood will give you the blues; just think what the ice storm they have been suffering the past few days will do.

China Agrees to “Flexible” Exchange Rate [UPDATED]

A partial victory for the Obama Administration Saturday in advance of the G-20 meetings, as the Chinese government agreed to allow a “flexible” exchange rate for its currency. This does not necessarily translate to a full-scale appreciation of the renminbi relative to the dollar, but it could down the road.
