Responsibilities
As a senior team member reporting directly to the managing editor, you will be responsible for monitoring breaking news stories, assigning stories to writers, and scheduling front-page content. Put your web writing expertise to work with light line editing, writing headlines and ledes, as well as writing articles under tight deadlines to cover breaking news and important events.

Requirements
Experience writing news, political commentary, analysis for blogs and/or print publications
Supervisory experience
Reliable high-speed Internet access
Strong awareness of and interest in current events and US politics
Available to monitor news, blogs, and FDL backstage, from 4:30 PM till 11:30 PM Eastern Time, five days a week

Located in Metro DC area
Management experience
Editorial / copy editing / line editing experience
Professional experience and/or training writing headlines and ledes
Existing media and/or political contacts
Skilled at effective layout / formatting of web copy
Photo-manipulation skills
Assignment Editor experience
Journalistic experience
Daily blogging experience with broad awareness of political blogosphere
Volunteer management or coordination experience
Political campaign experience

This job is part traffic cop/scheduler, part cajoling folks to write articles you think should be written, part line editing (mostly heds and ledes and cleaning up typos, grammar, etc.). There is also the opportunity to do some writing yourself, but your first responsibility is to the demands of the editor position.

This is a full-time, work-from-home position.

Compensation
Competitive, commensurate with experience. Generous health care stipend also available.
