This is not right. You are not alone. This must change. With these three phrases, the mighty are brought down and the lowly lifted up.
On this Thanksgiving Weekend, I am thankful for all who stand up to bullies.

Makana Occupies APEC |
| By: profmarcus Sunday November 13, 2011 1:10 pm |
How often does someone from the occupy movement get to deliver a thoughtful protest in front of a gathering of world leaders in what was, at least last night, probably one of the most highly-guarded spots on the entire planet? What an amazing triumph!
Sluts Are Asking the Right Question about Rape |
| By: Peterr Saturday September 17, 2011 9:00 am |
We live in a culture that is more comfortable asking rape victims “why did you let yourself get raped?” than asking their attackers “why did you rape?” After a Toronto cop’s remark seemed to put the responsibility for rape on how a victim dressed, it lit a fuse of anger that has spread around the globe.
Slutwalk. “Because We’ve Had Enough”
It’s coming to Kansas City today, and maybe to your city next.
Throwing Cream Pies at People Violates the Norms |
| By: Scarecrow Tuesday July 19, 2011 4:40 pm |
Perhaps there’s still enough democracy, moral outrage, and respect for the rule of law left to bring such scoundrels to account. Heaven knows, the public would welcome that. But I doubt it. Sooner or later, violating the norms is all you have left.

Watch this shocking video of dozens of Virginia State riot police using far excessive force against peaceful protestors at Quantico Marine Base rallying for humane treatment of Bradley Manning. Starting around 7 minutes into the video, you can see and hear Ret. Col. Ann Wright screaming in pain as police are putting on handcuffs,. One officer in particular crushes Col. Wright with his riot shield. Daniel Ellsberg goes to the ground before he is picked up and arrested.

“Vaya Con Dios” and Care of the Soul |
| By: Glenn W. Smith Sunday December 19, 2010 9:30 am |
The day I arrived on earth back in September, 1953, the number one song in America was Les Paul and Mary Ford’s “Vaya Con Dios.” Go With God? Go? Hell, I’d just gotten here. Where was I supposed to go? A month earlier, the Soviet Union helped put the boom in Baby Boomer by exploding [...]
Obama May Want to Re-Read King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” |
| By: Peterr Thursday October 28, 2010 7:30 am |
Joe Sudbay of AmericaBlog asked President Obama a simple question: is DADT unconstitutional? The answer he got was anything but simple, and Obama managed to refer to Martin Luther King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” in a reply that told LGBTs they were wrong to be disappointed in Obama’s strategy of “not now.”
Funny, but that’s not at all what King said. Obama’s reply makes it sound not like this is one of his “favorite pieces of literature” but something someone else read and gave him some talking points from.
Obama may want to re-read that letter — because the LGBTs sure act and sound like they’ve read it a lot more recently than Obama has.
