Give credit to Jake Tapper, senior White House correspondent for ABC News, who in a press conference challenged the Obama Administration for celebrating aggressive journalists that have died in Syria as it simultaneously goes after similar journalism in the United States.

Oh blessed right-winger that isn’t so very right-wing |
| By: Attaturk Thursday February 23, 2012 1:30 am |
There’s nothing our beltway “reasonable men and women” love more than a conservative a-hole they can praise because he (it’s almost always a he) isn’t an EXTREEEEEEEEEEME conservative a-hole.
Late Night FDL: Marie Colvin, 1946-2012 |
| By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday February 22, 2012 8:00 pm |
I met Marie Colvin briefly in 2005 at the Full Frame film festival in Durahm, North Carolina. She and Molly Bingham (who went on to become a friend of the blog) were both featured in Barbara Kopple’s documentary about women journalists in Iraq, Bearing Witness. Marie’s hotel room was next door to mine and the celebration party was loud and long, lasting into the wee hours of the morning. My impression was that she was a remarkable woman who knew how to enjoy life.
Heartland Institute Affair and Climategate Share Common Thread: Always Blame the Climate Scientists |
| By: David Dayen Tuesday February 21, 2012 12:10 pm |
The major difference between this situation and “Climategate,” as far as I can see, is that Gleick admitted to the conduct, while the hackers who stole the Climategate emails haven’t. So the focus was kept on the emails in Climategate (or their mischaracterization by climate change deniers), but the focus is only on the acquisition of the emails in the Heartland Institute affair.
Already Going To Hell Just Pumping That Gas |

The New York Times Andy Revkin laments the fact that a whistleblower at Heartland Institute misled colleagues to gather and release internal documents showing the Institute was planning to obfuscate climate science in school rooms in support of climate change deniers. But all that’s happened is that another set of climate denial shills has bee exposed, so now they want to draft Revkin to help continue the shilling.

Whip me, beat me, take away my charge card, I would like to kiss this entire speech by Digital First CEO John Paton with tongue.
Late Night FDL: Anthony Shadid, RIP |
| By: Swopa Friday February 17, 2012 8:00 pm |
The deluge of sorrow-filled tributes and reminisces that have been written by other journalists already testify to how highly Anthony Shadid was regarded among his peers. But let me add a few words from a blogger’s perspective to explain how special he truly was.
CNBC’s Diana Olick’s Wrongheaded Analysis of the Foreclosure Fraud Settlement |
| By: David Dayen Monday February 13, 2012 1:00 pm |
We’re going to have to endure this misguided lines of argument from those savvy business reporters, and CNBC’s Diana Olick is at the head of the pack. So we might as well take on her poor arguments about the foreclosure fraud settlement directly.
Just a few isolated serial violations |
| By: Attaturk Friday February 3, 2012 1:30 am |
First it was the News of the World that was caught phone-hacking.
And then just a week ago it was another Murdoch paper, as the Sun was implicated.
And now, it is yet another Murdoch publication, the Times of London, Rupert’s most prestigious British publication.
Fox News’ Ed Henry Doesn’t Know How Home Loans Work |
| By: David Dayen Thursday February 2, 2012 2:36 pm |
We can talk about official malfeasance or conservative demonization but a lot of this has to do with the fact that the traditional media, the sources where most people get their news, don’t understand pretty much anything about housing. I mean not even the most basic stuff.
