Libby Sentencing Two

By: emptywheel Tuesday June 5, 2007 7:09 am

Don't update wildly. What were the other rules?
Jeffress: [continuing on IIPA] If there had been a violation of IIPA, I'm sure the govt would have charged it.
Walton: I always hear lawyers say indictment doesn't matter.  The fact that someone is indicted, I tell people not to take that seriously. The fact that someone isn't [...]

Libby Sentencing One

By: emptywheel Tuesday June 5, 2007 6:27 am

Good morning firepups!
Back here at Prettyman Courthouse. The old rules apply.  Don't refresh wildly. I'll timestamp updates. If you haven't bought my book, buy that. If not, buy the new book out today by our own Jeff Lomonaco and some guy named Murray Waas.
If you haven't already read it, I recommend you read this post [...]

Fitzgerald Post-Trial Press Conference

By: Christy Hardin Smith Tuesday March 6, 2007 9:57 am

The jury worked very long and hard and deliberated to find a verdict of guilty on four of five counts
The prosecutors behind me logged in a lot of hours on this case, and with that I'll take questions.
What is now clear, we knew that Mr. Libby had told a story.  What is now public is [...]

To say it was tense in the courtroom as we were waiting for a verdict would be an understatement.  My heart was pounding in my chest as it all started to become real for me, all we'd done, how far we'd come.
Libby was stoic and Mrs. Libby daubed her eyes [...]

The Verdict Faerie

By: emptywheel Tuesday March 6, 2007 8:34 am

As you might know. mr, emptywheel is Irish. So when things disappear or reappear at my house, it's always attributed to the ________ faerie. It goes something like this:
"Sweetie, did you use the last eggs?"
"Oh, I thought the egg faerie would have brought more."
OR
"Hey, are we having people over? The beer faerie's been."

Always said [...]

Questions, Questions, Questions

By: emptywheel Tuesday March 6, 2007 6:28 am

Here are the questions:
Is the prosecution alleging that Mr. Libby did not make the statement to Cooper as presented to us in the Indictment OR is the allegation that Libby did know Mrs. Wilson worked for the CIA when he spoke to the FBI on 10/14/03 or 11/26/03?
Is the prosecution's allegation in Count 3 that [...]

Wake Up and Smell the Questions, Part Two

By: emptywheel Monday March 5, 2007 1:56 pm

Fitz: reading through the question of whether the story was based on what he knew about the crime they were investigating. That's no different than if he tells a story that the law enforcement doesn't account. The defense used it in their summation.
Walton: What about that Mr Wells, you made a bit point about that. [...]

STUDENTS, NOT BANKS

Pass direct student lending now!

President Obama's plan for direct student lending saves $8.7 billion by cutting unnecessary fees paid to Wall Street banks.

But if the Senate tries to pass a health care 'fix' through reconciliation without passing direct lending at the same time, there won't be another opportunity for an entire year.

Sign our petition to the Senate to save our students and pass direct student lending.
