A Little Late But Blue America Welcomes Mary Jo Kilroy (D-OH) |

Several Blue America candidates didn’t get their races decided on election day, either because of how close the tallies were or because of how slow the counting has been. Virgil Goode’s stunning defeat by Tom Perriello shocked most Beltway types and this was quickly followed by mixed news from the Northwest, a loss for Darcy Burner in Washington and a win for Oregon Senator-elect Jeff Merkley.

Like so many of you, I am still somewhat in awe of what we accomplished as a nation last Tuesday night. After eight long years of George Bush and Dick Cheney, of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, with unprecedented challenges facing us on the economy, energy, the environment, and health care — in one instant, by electing a new generation of leadership, we sent an unmistakable signal to the entire world that America is back.

Everyone I know who knows him tells me Washington Post commentator Chris Cillizza is a swell guy. I believe it. But it doesn’t make him any more perceptive in a job that calls on basically one thing: perceptivity. Yesterday he posted his list of the 50 districts most likely to change hands on Tuesday.
