OH-10: The One Flaw in the Brilliant Plan

At this point, well over half the incumbent Democrats in Congress know their circumstances for a primary with precision. And most of them will by default be the Democratic nominee in their respective districts. That doesn’t mean there’s no electoral leverage over them whatsoever, but idle threats about primaries just look silly.

Sit up straight and listen up: The founding fathers didn’t sit around whining about the lack of democratization. They got off their butts and they did something about it. They swore with their lives and on their honor and committed themselves to making change happen. They certainly didn’t wait for some big all-powerful organization to come to them and ask how they could get their wish for democracy granted.

Sarah Palin is picking really odd ways to try to appeal to the large anti-war isolationist libertarian contingent that has been attracted to the tea party movement — a movement whose leaders cast it as drastically different from the mainstream GOP. But then, I was reminded that the folks behind the tea party organization are just plain old movement Republicans looking to con voters into thinking they’re not really Republicans.

I expect the political team at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. thinks that it might be a win-win. Either they get to sign a bill, no matter how ineffectual, and call it a victory, or they don’t get a bill, and can blame obstructionists in Congress or the flawed process during this year’s elections (and 2012, too). But it’s not going to go down that way.
