looseheadprop

About Me:
In rugby, the looseheadprop is the player in the front row of the scrum, who has the ability to collapse the scrum, pretty much at will and without the referee knowing who did it. While this can give the LHP's team a great tactical advantage, it also exposes scrum players from both teams to the dangers of catastrophic spinal cord injury. Consequently, playing this position makes you understand your responsibility to put doing the right thing ahead of winning, and to think beyond your own wants and desires. It also makes you very law and order oriented.

By: looseheadprop Saturday February 28, 2009 11:00 am

Newt Gingrich didn’t win a majority in the House because of the strength of his ideas, he won because of a dubious fundraising system and a cynical marketing plan–GOPAC.

America Does Not Torture? Detainee Abuse Up since November Election

By: looseheadprop Thursday February 26, 2009 9:45 am

GW law Professor Jonathan Turley has been saying for a while now that President Obama would have only a short period of time to initiate investigations fo wars crimes before Obama himself became complicit. A lawyer for detainees alleges that torture and abuse has actually INCREASED since Obama was elected. This puts Obama in a box, he has to act or else share in Bush’s war crimes fate.

Sliced his Genitals with a Scalpel? Waterboarding was the Least of it

By: looseheadprop Monday February 9, 2009 11:23 am

Waterboarding is not the worst war crime we have committed at Gitmo. It’s not even the #2 worst thing we did.

I am sick over this.

A Hand up, Instead of a Hand out

By: looseheadprop Wednesday February 4, 2009 6:00 pm

You know that old saw about “give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime”? This is the difference between so-called “compassionate conservatism” which seeks to make people dependent on faith based institutions vs. pragmatic compassion which helps people help themselves through education, health insurance, and child care.

Jim Holbert shows us how its done.

NY Senate: It’s Like a “Columbo” Episode

By: looseheadprop Friday January 23, 2009 6:04 am

NY Gov David Paterson is assembling all the suspects, I mean contenders, for the open senate seat recently vacate by Hillary Clinton in Albany today. Like an episode of the old Columbo detective series, or a novel featuring Hercule Poirot, he will likely discuss his thought process about each one before finally revealing the murderer, er senator.

One of the funniest aspects to this whole thing is how many times Andrea Mitchell has gotten the same story wrong.

Will Justice–or at Least Due Process–Come to Gitmo Detainees?

By: looseheadprop Thursday January 22, 2009 8:08 am

David Iglesias, the one of the US Attorney’s fired to actually trying to do his job in a fair non partisan manner has just been tapped by the Obama administration to prosecute Gitmo detainees. This is an inspired choice. Not just for the “up yours” message it sends to the loyal Bushies, but because his unique skill set positions him to handle all the permutations of prosecutions to come in these cases.
