FISA: Screwed, Blued and Tattooed

Thanks so much, House Democrats. We're now being told that the horrible FISA bill -- which allows the Attorney General to submit documents to the court that will have lawsuits against the telecoms dismissed in secret -- is going to have the supplemental added on to it. Hoyer doesn't want a situation where the Blue Dogs and the Republicans join together to get this passed, so they're going to strongarm other

Things are moving quickly. We've now taken in over $100,000 in less than two days (and a grand total of $195,000) to fight the FISA battle. Glenn has a post up outlining some of the stuff we're doing, but suffice to say that there is much going on and you'll be hearing more soon. The other day people had great suggestions about what to name the new PAC we're forming

Who could have predicted -- Larry Sinclair, the guy who had a 27 year criminal record, was arrested at the Press Club today after his press conference: At quick trip over to Larry Sinclair’s blog found his supporters bewildered as to why Sinclair was arrested. Some mentioned that perhaps they “should raise money for Larry’s bail” while others assumed “Obama” was behind the arrest in order to “silence” Larry from telling the

Strange Bedfellows, Indeed

The deal that's been cut by the Democratic leadership to give George Bush everything he wants and grant retroactive immunity to the telecoms is an outrageous betrayal of the public trust. With the passage of this bill, we'll never be able to discover the extent of the lawbreaking that the Bush Administration and the telecos engaged in as they spied on American citizens.

So we're joining together with some strange bedfellows indeed -- the ACLU, the Break the Matrix folks (who did the money bombs for the Ron Paul campaign), and others we are in discussions with to go after the people responsible for this travesty. The ACLU has a press release here.

$12.50 For Five Words? “Bite Me” Indeed, AP

So AP wants to charge bloggers for "fair use" content. Good luck with that. Many are going to boycott them as a result, but one notable blogger is taking another tack. Markos: Lots of blogs are calling for boycotts of AP content. Not me. I'm going to keep using it. I will copy and paste as many words as I feel necessary to make my points.

I'm going to be at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York City on June 23-24, along with Arianna Huffington, Josh Marshall, Ana Marie Cox, Jeff Jarvis, Jay Rosen, Elizabeth Edwards, Esther Dyson, Ben Smith and a host of others. I'll be talking with Patrick Ruffini about the changing role of the netroots and the rightroots.

The good folks at PdF have a special offer for FDLers: If you register now, you can still get the early bird rate, and they'll take $100 off for the first ten people who email conference@personaldemocracy.com and mention FDL in the email.

See you there.

It's a two day conference and Pach and DeVeria will be there with me

No More Steny! No More Joe! Name That PAC!

As Glenzilla teases at here, we're going to be forming a new organization to target elected officials who have become more responsive to K Street money than their constituents. First up? Steny Hoyer and everybody's favorite...Joe Lieberman. This election is not going to be 2006 all over again. We learned our lesson.

Anyway, we're looking for a name for the organization, something that is short and pithy and lets people know that we're there to hold politicians accountable.

And we're taking suggestions in the commments. If we pick your idea you'll win a copy of Matt Taibbi's Great Derangement, which -- if you missed Saturday's book salon (and Taibbi's flame war in the comments with a 9/11 Truther) -- is da bomb.

Looks like the AP isn't crazy about being crowned "Wanker of the Day" and they've decided to "define clear standards as to how much of its articles and broadcasts bloggers and Web sites can excerpt without infringing on The A.P.’s copyright." They are not, however, backing off their demand that the Drudge Retort remove seven items with AP quotes ranging from 39 to 79 words.

Scott Garrett (NJ-05) is a symbol of the moral decay of the Bush Administration, and his barbaric voting record on animal rights is almost unique in the northeast, a reflection of his own savage views. Fortunately, we have the antidote with us here today -- Dennis Shulman, who wrote his postdoctoral psychoanalytic dissertation on the relationship between two of his blind patients and their guide dogs.

Please join him and his daughter Julie here with us in the comments.

You can donate to Dennis's campaign here.
