Color of Change on Women’s Voices, Women’s VotesBy: Jane Hamsher Thursday May 1, 2008 4:30 pm |
James Rucker and Color of Change have been tireless advocates when it comes to combating voter suppression and disenfranchisement. Rucker released this statement on the Women's Voices, Women's Votes issue: "There have been clear errors in planning and execution on the part of Women's Voices Women's Votes, and those errors have led to a situation where Black voters in North Carolina may be dissuaded from voting in a hotly contested and important primary election. This is a major problem and point of concern. ..."
John McCain: Conflict In Iraq is “Over” Because “Mission Accomplished” Banner Said So (VIDEO)By: Jane Hamsher Thursday May 1, 2008 2:26 pm |
On May 1, 2003, unbeknownst to you, conflict in Iraq was over. Or so said the Man Who Would Be President, John McCain: CAVUTO: ... Senator, "after a conflict" means "after the conflict," and many argue the conflict isn't over. MCCAIN: Well, then why was there a banner that said 'mission accomplished' on the aircraft carrier?
Throwing Gas On the Fire: Bob Schaffer’s Jack Abramoff ProblemsBy: Jane Hamsher Thursday May 1, 2008 12:07 pm |
Bob Schaffer, running against Mark Udall in Colorado, has big Jack Abramoff problems -- and he's making them worse: In a Denver Post profile, he pointed to the Marianas as a model for the kind of guest worker program he'd like to see adopted nationally to help fix our broken immigration system.
Is A Rockefeller/Hoyer FISA Immunity Deal Imminent?By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday April 30, 2008 3:00 pm |
According to the ACLU, there is rumor of a backroom deal being brokered by Jay Rockefeller on FISA that will include retroactive immunity. I've heard from several sources that Steny Hoyer is doing the dirty work on the House side, and some say it will be attached to the new supplemental.
There doesn't seem to be any greater priorityfor this administration than to get Dick Cheney and the other criminals in the Bush administration retroactive immunity for themselves and their teleco cohorts on their way out the door. Much fear mongering, ads in the districts of freshmen House Democrats, and lookie here, Trent Lott crawls out from under his slimy rock...
Why is Daniel Inouye Raising Money For Senator Toobz?By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday April 30, 2008 12:01 pm |
So Daniel Inouye is traveling to Alaska to headline a fundraiser for Republican Ted Stevens. How delightful. Who needs a supermajority anyway?
After having backed Slummy Joe before he didn't, you'd think Inouye would learn. But I guess he has his reasons...
Flip, Flop & Fly: John McCain’s Southern StrategyBy: Jane Hamsher Tuesday April 29, 2008 6:00 pm |
Impotent, weak concern troll John McCain said he'd do "do everything” in his power and bring “every pressure to bear” to stop North Carolina GOP extremists from airing the racist attack ad against Barack Obama. Everything, that is, short of calling NC GOP Chairwoman Linda Daves.
Obama Repudiates HageeBy: Jane Hamsher Tuesday April 29, 2008 12:13 pm |
As someone who has sat there for the past 20 years and watched every extremist, fundy flim-flamming freak waltz around without challenge as they pray for Armageddon, or say Hurricaine Katrina was god's revenge against gays, or peddle religious bigotry and eliminationist hate speech unassailed, I'm a bit filled with disgust at the moment.
McCain Adviser’s Head Explodes Over “100 Years in Iraq” Comment (VIDEO)By: Jane Hamsher Monday April 28, 2008 4:47 pm |
I was on PBS's To the Contrary with McCain adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer, who did her best John McCain impression and lost her cool when his "100 years in Iraq" comment was mentioned.
Atrios was right -- it makes them instantly and inexplicably irrational. Nancy starts repeating "factcheck.org" like McCain made the comment in Chinese or something and people couldn't understand what he meant without a translator.
Use "100 years" and "Iraq" in the same sentence and I think people get the idea.
Where’s Liddy? Tell Elizabeth Dole To Stop Racist Attack Ads Against Barack ObamaBy: Jane Hamsher Monday April 28, 2008 12:06 pm |
Elizabeth Dole is the most senior member of the North Carolina GOP, and she has the power to stop the racist attack ads against Obama that are running there. But in an election year when she's widely accused of having "gone Washington," she's AWOL on yet another North Carolina issue.
We're gong to be working with North Carolina bloggers (including Pam Spaulding) to deliver a petition to Dole's office, telling her to write the North Carolina GOP and make it stop. You can cosign here.
The Upcoming Iraq Supplemental: Putting The Squeeze On ProgressivesBy: Jane Hamsher Friday April 25, 2008 1:39 pm |
Like many, you may have been scratching your head when Bush asked for $102 billion in the upcoming supplemental bill for war funding, and the Democrats in Congress said "how about $170?" It was like the 2006 election never happened. The Democratic leadership wants the war off the table as an issue in the fall.
