More Toxic Joe

Posted in: 2008 Election, Lieberman

cooties.gifIt’s great that folks like Katrina Swett are realizing the political reality that hanging out with Joe Lieberman is a wonderful way to coat your campaign with cooties, but donating to Tom Allen doesn’t make it all better.

Atrios digs up this gem:

“Round two in Connecticut is going to be a battle between two Democrats: Joe Lieberman, a centrist Democrat, and Ned Lamont, a pretty-far-left-of-center Democrat,” said Swett. “I’m convinced that Joe Lieberman is the better leader . . . and I’m also convinced that he’s the better positioned politically for the future of the party that I love.”

As a result, Swett said, she thinks many prominent Democrats in Washington – despite their post-primary support for Lamont – would “quietly and secretly” breathe a sigh of relief if Lieberman bounced back.

Joe Lieberman won because the Republicans backed him. His message appealed to Republicans and he continues to be useful to Republicans. I realize that many think that the best way for Democrats to succeed is to become Republicans but I just don’t count myself among them.
