Pull Up A Chair…
Posted in: Pull Up a Chair
It started earlier this week. I couldn’t find my miniature Beaker and I reached the "had enough" point with the crap piled up on my desk. (And I do mean the Beaker from the Muppet Show, not for a chemistry experiment. Just for clarity’s sake.) In any given week, I get a lot of mail — books to review, bound reports, magazines, you name it.
Through the holidays it all sort of piled up along with various school papers from The Peanut. But then, I lost my stress relief funny stuffed Beaker with frenzied hair.
And something snapped.
You ever hit that wall where you cannot stand the clutter in your house any more? Where even the slightest little pile of anything, or mixed up bit in your cupboards or the junk in your junk drawer sends you over the edge? I hit that this week. And I’ve been on an organizing frenzy ever since.
It isn’t that we live in a slovenly hovel. It’s a nice house.
But now that we’ve added another person to the mix, suddenly what worked well for three people doesn’t work at all for four. Especially one whose mobility is a bit limited and another who is five and likes to leave her toys strewn about until forced to pick them up on pain of a time out. And thus, my desperate need for a place for everything and everything in its place — or at least some facsimile thereof — was born.
Sounds a bit nuts and stressed out, doesn’t it? Because it is.
Why is it that this sort of cleaning frenzy — and I do mean frenzy — can completely overpower everything with a need for tidy order and sense? And why is it that while you are cleaning and organizing, everything seems to get so much worse before it ever begins to get better? It sure seems that way, anyway.
There has to be a better way to manage the incoming so that it doesn’t get so crazy while I sort the rest of our things out in the "keep," "give away," "trash" bins. But I’ll be darned if I know what it is.
But at the moment, I’m sipping coffee, sitting here writing out a "to do" list for today, and trying to relax a little while before getting started all over again on the next round of cleaning. And listening to a bit of Loreena McKennit (YouTube) while I sit here, too.
