ABC News: VP Candidate = Sitcom Character

The reporting on this wardrobe story is making my head hurt.

Courtney Hazlett, the entertainment reporter, just explained it all to me on MSNBC.

First of all, she said “I can wrap my brain around this.”

Then she goes on to say that ABC’s wardrobe guidelines allow $4200 per prime time show for female characters, so “do the math”, it’s the equivalent of 29 prime time shows.

See, no problem!

I would’ve loved to read her dispatches from ancient Rome while standing next to Nero.

You are fucking kidding me, right?  A TV show takes a week to a week and a half to shoot, requiring many scenes and wardrobe changes.  Everything has to be new, you can’t repeat an outfit.  The demands of entertainment are a far cry from those of politics. 

Let’s say there was some goddamn rule where Sarah Palin couldn’t wear her clothes more than once, like the rest of us.  Any half-way decent stylist ought to be able to make her look fabulous for $500 bucks, head to toe.  I know, I’ve paid them to do it. Many times. (Eight days of shooting, one outfit a day, $500/per outfit = $4000, you’re about there.) Sarah Palin was nominated on August 29, or 54 days ago.  Do the math. Fifty-four times $500 is $27,000.  

This is why we keep the bimbos in front of the camera.
