Politico Used Lipstick On A Pig to Refer to Clinton

Well, no, actually they didn’t. But they did use it in reference to her:

What plays did she run in the wake of her worst campaigning day? Superficial Bear Hugs designed to co-opt Obama’s chosen message of Change. We are going to have change and that change will be a Democratic president in the White House in 2009…We have presented the case for change…America needs a new beginning. As well, she announced her plans to escalate attacks on Obama, what will amount to unrelenting Call Outs and Mirrors on the new leader.

But her drubbing is too obvious to triangulate. It is a political pig that no amount of lipstick will make beautiful.

The Politico has been pushing the "Lipstick on a Pig" story, repeating the McCain campaign’s line that it must have referred to Palin even though it clearly doesn’t and even though they’ve used the phrase themselves. Methinks someone is ginning up controversy, since as they note themselves, Palin stories are their highest traffic stories.

Meanwhile, even Mike Huckabee (video above), thinks Obama meant what any sane person would think he meant:

SEAN HANNITY: I want you — to get your reaction. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.

MIKE HUCKABEE: It’s an old expression, and I’m going to have to cut Obama some slack on that one. I do not think he was referring to Sarah Palin; he didn’t reference her. If you take the two soundbites together, it may sound like it. But I’ve been a guy at the podium many times, and you say something that’s maybe a part of an old joke and then somebody ties it in. So, I’m going to have to cut him slack.
