The Republican Brand In Ruins — Even In Mississippi
Posted in: 2008 Election, Republicans

I think 2008 is going to be a fabulous year for the Republican Party. — The Commander Guy, 3/13/08
That giant sucking sound you heard last night was the GOP getting punked — again — in the reddest of the red:
In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits.
I guess that whole getting kicked out of both houses, a bunch of state legislatures and governors’ mansions in 2006 wasn’t enough of a wake-up call for these geniuses. But what’s so awesome about this is that the wingnuts are still — still! — completely in denial about why they’re losing.
"Tonight’s election highlights two significant challenges Republicans must overcome this November," [NRCC Chairman Tom] Cole said. "First, Republicans must be prepared to campaign against Democrat challengers who are running as conservatives, even as they try to join a liberal Democrat majority."
Added Powertools,
But my takeaway is that the Republican brand is in such bad shape that the Dems can win virtually anywhere if they nominate a candidate whose position on key issues is, or can be made to seem, close to that of the Republican.
No, morons. Republicans aren’t losing to Democrats because Democrats are cleverly disguising themselves as Republicans. Republicans are losing to Democrats because people hate Bush, hate the war, hate the economy, can’t afford health care, can’t afford gas, and hate Bush. In other words, they are thoroughly rejecting all of the Republican positions on key issues.
So even though it’s obvious to anyone with half a brain, the GOP will not be able to win in November by screaming "librul librul librul terra terra Wright [cough! black! cough!] Wright." But they still don’t know it.
Priceless.
