Strange Timing

The Bush Administration’s latest ham-handed shell-game, the North Korea-Syria connection seems not only flimsy and disjointed by even their standards. It was also, not surprisingly, gratuitous:

The White House also used its statement as an opportunity to denounce the nuclear activities of Iran, which it says is a threat to the stability of the Middle East.

Which is sort of like criticizing Cuba by taking a gratuitous swipe at Brazil. Great diplomats, and geography masters, these Bush Administration officials.

The accusation against Syria also comes in the wake of news of talks between Syria and Isreal about the Golan Heights, and the Bush Administration cannot just let those just things happen.

But maybe there’s an ulterior motive for promoting a North Korea, Syria connection? Maybe Bush just wants to promote his second-greatest theatrical performance, which premiers today?
