Proof He Treats Everyone Badly

Just another example of why Short Ride Joey’s Senate office probably won’t make it onto any Best Places to Work list anytime soon:

Some Lieberman staffers were apparently a little miffed back in December when they learned – by word of mouth – that their boss was supporting McCain. And their unhappiness has grown in recent weeks as Lieberman has campaigned for McCain and continues to step away from the Democratic Party.

But surely the boss would let his loyal Capitol Hill staffers know his thinking — you know, have a meeting and let everybody in on the plan?

In an interview Friday, Lieberman said he does not know about any unhappiness among staffers, but said, “I don’t play political loyalties with my staff.”

Before making the McCain endorsement, Lieberman said he “talked to my key staff people and met with the committee staff” but “not the entire staff.”

“The staff that’s been here has gone through all of this with me, and they’ve heard me say from the beginning of the presidential campaign [that] I am going to wait ’till both parties choose their nominees and then I’d decide,” Lieberman said. “So, that was in the air.”

Still, Lieberman added, “The timing may have been a surprise.”

Yeah, it might have been, considering you broke your word by endorsing Old Lord St McCain in the middle of both parties’ primary season. That’s just the thing every loyal political staffer longs for from the putz they’ve tied their career to, for better or worse: a surprise.

And, in case you’re keeping track at home, some Democratic Senators still covet the LieberStink:

The senator said he will keep campaigning for McCain “as they need me,” but will also continue to do some fundraising for Democrats such as Sens. Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana and Mark Pryor of Arkansas.

“I expect I’ll be doing more for other Democrats in the House and the Senate,” Lieberman said.
