Iowa Independents Prefer Democrats 2:1 Over Republicans
Posted in: 2008 Election
I have no idea who’s going to win in Iowa today. But I have uncovered more evidence that the Unity ‘08/the-Democratic-Congress-is-less-popular-than-Bush crowd really needs to STFU immediately.
Thousands more Iowa independent voters are expected to turn out for Democrat presidential candidates than Republicans at today’s Iowa caucuses.
…
The Des Moines Register’s late November poll showed 21 percent of likely Democratic caucusgoers identified themselves as independents, a group that accounted for a surprising 40 percent in the Register’s poll this week.
Meanwhile, the Register’s poll showed independents accounting for 20 percent likely GOP caucusgoers, up from 13 percent in late November.
Surprisingly, people in the middle don’t like it when you lose two wars, fail to solve or at least competently address any major problems of the day, and preside over flat middle class incomes degraded further by record gas prices and rising health care costs. Weird but true!
And I love this from my boy Kenny Mehlman:
"But there’s two ways you can look at this data. One is you can try to explain it away, or you can worry about it," added Mehlman, Bush’s 2004 reelection campaign manager and former White House political director.
"It seems to me the smart strategy is to worry, because if you’re worried, you can take steps to fix it," added Mehlman, who is unaffiliated with any of the campaigns in 2008. "One of the mistakes I think we made in ‘06 a little bit was not enough folks got concerned early in the process that year about where the elections were going."
Kenny must’ve forgotten than the GOP also lost the independent vote in 2004 when they were squeezing every last vote of their shrinking base. And of course, they lost it again in 2006 as well.
Heckuva job with that Republican brand, Bushie!
