Horse Race Roundup

Posted in: 2008 Election

. Iowa Independent says Republican candidates are getting hinky because Ron Paul just might come in third in Iowa. No wonder Fox News is giving him the boot.

. Tomorrow morning, Obama is on Russert, Clinton is on Stepanopoulos, and Edwards is on Face the Nation. Let’s see if anybody stumbles.

. Speaking of getting screwed by your consultants — McCain wouldn’t be taking public financing if his consultants hadn’t run through all his cash in the first quarter making him grovel before the fundies. Curiously, now that he’s back to being John McCain he looks like he’s got a shot.

. Noam Scheiber sketches out several scenarios in Iowa:

1.) Hillary wins by more than a point or two, in which case the race is basically over. 2.) Obama wins convincingly (five points or more), in which case it starts looking pretty good for him and Edwards is done. 3.) Edwards wins convincingly and Obama is third, in which case Obama is probably done and Hillary and Edwards duke it out (with Hillary enjoying a near-prohibitive financial advantage).

So assuming for the sake of argument that the above analysis is correct — if you were Hillary Clinton, would you go for broke or make a deal with Edwards to knock out Obama, knowing that you had the financial advantage going forward?
