Sinead is about to release her new album: I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss…
For her newest album, the singer adapted the language of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s “Ban Bossy” campaign, which encourages people to not use the word “bossy” when describing women in power: “I’m not bossy, I’m the boss,” supporter videos — including one by Beyonce — claim.
I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss is also the title of O’Connor’s upcoming tenth studio album, out Aug. 12. On Friday, O’Connor released the lead single, “Take Me To Church.”
“The protagonist I’m writing about has had a profoundly distressing experience from which she is ultimately able to not only salvage herself but give birth to herself, coming to the conclusion, ‘I am only one I should adore,’” O’Connor said in a release about the video.
“What have I been singing love songs for? I don’t want to sing them anymore,” she explains in the powerful clip, which shows O’Connor rocking out with her band.
