Samantha Fish, Cassie Taylor, and Dani Wilde as Girls With Guitars — Down In The Swamp from the Blues Caravan Tour, at Hondarribia, Spain, 2011.
What’s on your mind?
Hey Suz. How are you?
hey senator — how’s sac tonight? we are gonna have 90′s for at least the next 7 days – ugh
It is forkin’ hot. between 90 and 100 for ten days.
Good bluesy sound. Am mildly puzzled, though — according to Wikipedia, “Girls with Guitars” is a song by Mary Chapin Carpenter, not a group.
Why does Suz call you Senator?
double ugh — i was hoping for a cool summer
Cause along time ago someone on FDL
said I should run for the senate or I could do a better job than DiFi. Then everyone started calling me Senator.
hi, marymac….. long time no chat. Hope all is well. Great to see you here tonight.
hey blue — how’s la tonight? if ya click on girls with guitars link it takes ya to the blues caravan site that talks about girls with guitars. not the song but the teaming up of female guitarists for the blues caravan concert tours.
We’re having mid-summer thaw. 80s during day, now 66, but going down to high 50s next few nights. Nirvana.
You could do a better job than DiFi, Senator. And you probably wouldn’t rake in as much military-industrial complex moolah.
Thanks! I have been working for almost a year. Usually I am in bed by now.
hey dearie — how ya doing tonight?
Hey, blue. Do we think DiFi will finally age out? And who is coming up behind her? What do you sense about Garamandi? Or is Gavin Newsom waiting in the wings?
hey ecahn — i want some of your temps! how ya doing tonight?
Good to hear you’ve had work…. hope it’s a job you are enjoying!
I’m doing well, Suz. Had my first day of heavy duty physical therapy. They warned me that I’ll probably be sore tomorrow, but it was great to be working on a full recovery!
i’ve got dead relatives that could do a better job that difi does
still think mary mac would make a kick ass senator tho
Do you think Gavin will run for Senate? I guess he can’t wait out Jerry Brown. Jerry Brown will win again. rats.
ice will help with that – or does it do better with heat? are you still on pain meds? if not, it should be manageable with otc
I love it. I am a web developer. Most of the people are in their twenties and thirties. It has been very interesting. They can’t figure me out. I can’t quite figure them out. But I like them. I am an outlier.
i think gavin would love to have difi (or boxer)’s job but would take gov of ca. i think he sees both as stepping stones
Composing email to new money manager the FinCom I am on switched to a week ago.
How’s by you? Any new thought on moving to that other Nirvana, Seattle environs?
I met Gavin a long time ago when I was speaking on health care stuff. I was getting ready to talk in front of city hall in SF. I saw this skinny, tall, sort of handsome man to the side of me. I thought he was security. I found out shortly that he was the mayor. This was before he was as well known.
How fun… and rewarding. Good work is rewarding! I haven’t been bored during my recovery from broken arm, but I’m beginning to look forward to getting back to work. But, as I’ve told Suz, the weeks that I’ve been able to nurture my inner hermit have been kind of nice. “)
Ice is miracle drug. Have many anecdotes for support.
Recent: Arthritic knees, trying to get into shape, stressing them. Yesterday iced the worse one & was MUCH better today.
inner hermit. I have to remember that one.
No pain meds! I hate ‘em! Ice is good. I’m handling the soreness okay. But then again, I’m a tough old broad.
Ah, I see. I like their stuff.
My mother had another emergency last night — another fall. Went to her assisted living place to pick up some stuff with her, then kept her company at the ER. It was just a bruise on her foot, fortunately.
Had trouble reaching the switchboard at her new place, so when the ambulance took her back, I had to go over there at 2 in the morning to make sure someone was holding down the fort. Fortunately, today was a massage day; that got me back in the groove.
Both of my parents are in skilled nursing. I think my brother and sister are waaaaaaay stressed out trying to keep up with their needs. And they are really getting on one another’s nerves.
naw more pipe dream than anything else…. i h-a-t-e moving with a white hot purple passion so… i would have to be pretty motivated. took breaking my leg to get me moved closer to jen *laughing*
So do I, Suz…! ;-)
Aloha, lln pups I hope all’s well…!
Hey, blue. Just a curiosity: what is your mom being charged for ambulance co-pay? I’ve got Medicare & supplemental and was kind of surprised that the ambulance wanted to charge me $250 co-pay. I’d like to charge them for the glasses that one of the EMTs stepped on while trying to find my insurance card…… for some reason they would not let me bring my purse…. just my ins. card & cell phone.
doing nothing — magnificently!
No, I think she’ll have to be carried out. As long as there’s war-machine money for her and her husband to skim, there will be no getting rid of her. Her appeal completely baffles me, I must admit — I can’t stand that syrupy, condescending Mary Jane voice.
Am NOT a Gavin Newsom fan — I will never forgive him for his 53 to 47 percent victory over Green Matt Gonzalez in the 2003 San Francisco mayoral contest, a contest in which Newsom ran as a centrist, business-friendly Democrat and received the support of national Dems Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Jesse Jackson. Just think what a lift that would have given the Green Party.
As to who I’d like to see replace DiFi — it’s always a bad sign when I like a candidate, as my tastes are somewhat out of the mainstram, but I’d love to see Barbara Lee in that office.
my knees like ice but my back insists on heat.
Can you talk, at least in general terms, about what the problem is? Perfectly acceptable if you don’t want to share the info with the NSA.
oy — double oy…. thank goodness she is closer. and yay for massage!!!
Why “rats”? Am not a Dem anymore, but all things being equal, I don’t think we’re gonna get a better Gov.
i used to take an otc pain med right before i walked in the door of pt — it helped a lot
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
I need to find a comedy site where I can tell the tale of the ER experience for my broken arm……….you gotta laugh. One highlight: they gave me one pain pill and told me to stay ahead of the pain and sent me home in a cab at 11 p.m…….. and put the pain pill in a child proof bottle. I thought of going after it with a hammer, but it was my dominant arm that was broken and I was afraid I might do some real harm swinging a hammer with my left hand. Crazy times.
Well, I have to hit the sack.
Ah, you’ve already answered that.
Good night, Senator.
Yes, that happens. Is happening.
Sweet dreams, Senator…! ;-)
I had whiplash-type neck injury decades ago. Details too boring.
Nurse niece advised ice then heat. Ended up in emergency room at midnight with unbearable pain after the switch to heat. Been a solely ice fan since.
Jeeze…co-pay…I don’t think there is one…my mother, having worked in a medical field, has pretty good insurance.
For one of her ambulance rides last year, Medicare rejected it, even though the doctor said it was a medical necessity. We’re in the process of fighting that one.
They’ve turned it over to a collection agency, which has really dragged things out, in order to try and make more money off it, I think.
for some reason they would not let me bring my purse
That sounds odd — it sounds like more of a power trip than anything.
My parents are in town tonite since my dad has a colonoscopy scheduled early tomorrow morn…! Had a great meal and chat with ‘em…!
g’nite senator — happy dreams
Co-pay a form of death panel to get rid of old useless eaters.
Yes. It was bad timing, though: I’m going to be travelling starting tomorrow, and emergencies don’t help with the planning, but everything got done OK. And my masseuse, as I’ve mentioned, is as good as they come.
Yeesh. Apparently not all medical people take that “First do no harm thing” seriously.
my left knee likes ice followed by heat. my right knee is ice only. guess it depends on what ya got going at each joint
Sounds like they sold the account to the collection agency…. which will hound you, but you can still fight ‘em. They’ll eventually take what they can get.
yay and oy. how long has it been since you saw them?
We are tougher than they are! We have been around the arena a few times.
at least it happened before your trip and not during…. (i’m in touch with my inner pollyana and always try to find the lemonade)
We’re appealing Medicare’s denial of medical necessity for the ambulance ride. Weirdly, you don’t appeal to Medicare — there’s some private company in North Dakota you have to argue with. If there’s anything that makes as little sense as privatized prisons, it’s privatized Medicare appeals.
That’s a good point.
Is that the way to manage medical care for the U.S. pop?
are you traveling for pleasure or is this part of your peanut butter book being out in paperback now?
has nothing to do with managing health care for the people… has everything to do with profit margins and getting every penny possible outta the people
On edit: At least you are not dealing with someone in India. Outsourcing doesn’t always work well.
My brother’s getting married again. No pleasure, as we can’t abide each other. Emotionally blackmailed into attending by aging mother.
oy. she expects you to go and represent since she can’t?
Contractors, mercenaries, whatever you call them, it makes no f***ing sense to have a government function like this performed by a private sector organization in my opinion.
Yes. Threatened to go if I wouldn’t. I don’t recall her being this coarsely manipulative when I was growing up — well, maybe a few times, now that I think about it.
Reality. Sometimes I don’t think AARP is more than an insurance company, but they do still work for the needs of the elderly. Yes, they actually do.
The point of my Q. Dearie may be able to navigate it, but for majority of U.S. pop it is genocide.
Used to ask on threads when commenters brought up “single payer”: do you want George W. Bush to determine what medical treatment you will receive.
It’s been probably 4-5 months since I last met up with’em…! My Mom told me tonite ‘I won’t vote for a Dong’ when I’d asked her if she was going to vote for the DLC tool Colleen Hanabusa, instead of the real progressive Brian Schatz…! What’s worse is that she know’s Hanabusa is such a Tool…!
heh. Think AARP was co-opted decades ago.
no matter how old we get, mothers always know how to get around our objections… just like when we were kids
really not much difference between dubya and insurance adjusters… both have callous disregard for the ramifications of their decisions
I comprehend. But I also have to say that Medicare has been pretty good to me. I was paying almost $900 a month for health insurance…. kept working so I could keep my insurance. My SS is deducted to pay for the supplemental, but my doctor wouldn’t keep treating me if I didn’t have the supplemental. And then he retired anyway! But Medicare has been fair to me, so I am not complaining. I wish our govt could do ‘right’ by our citizens, but looking at how VA is working, I don’t have much hope that single payer would actually work. I just hope everyone leaves Medicare alone.
my mom is a mccain fan… or was until he picked she from alaska who must not be named as his running mate
I think Bush killed more people, but am not entirely sure about that.
Ooh, PBS Hawaii is airing the live debate for the 7 candidates that filed for Hanabusa’s Rep seat…! 2 gals and 5 guys…!
if so, not by much….
She’s an Emily List fanatic…!
*heh* Caribou Barbie is certainly catching serious flak from the RNC these days…! ;-)
Not being one myself, am still in the dark.
she is voting for females instead of males
I do macro, not micro.
Okay… gotta do some late night icing so that I can sleep. Enjoyed spending time with you all this evening. Carry on……..
Dong = penis Her wording by the way…! ;-)
g’nite dearie — happy colorful dreams
Sweet dreams, Dearie…!
Good night, Dearie.
Suz, does existence precede essence or does essence precede existence? It’s an existential dilemma that’s troubled me for some time, and I’d appreciate your input.
i’m just the translator blue
tis an enigma wrapped in a mystery kinda thing
fuck — blue *hands on hips* you tricked me into snagging the happy lucky 99
I’m a bad person — a bad, bad person…
EDITED TO ADD: Congratulations, of course.
Not being cranky at you. Feel the term has been over-used a bit, so sometimes take perverse pleasure in brandishing it myself.
*heh* Hate when that happens…! ;-)
i took no offense blue — i don’t like anyone voting based solely upon the candidate’s sex or religion or other items that have nothing to do with their qualifications for the job
I just love A&C – “Who’s on First” one of my all-time favorites.
Well, gosh — think I’m gonna bail. It’s been fun hanging out with you guys, as always.
mine too :) i loved watching the old a&b and other old b&w comedies on saturday afternoons as a kid.
g’nite blue — happy dreams
tis time for me to take token out to do his thang. he spent the afternoon at the doggy beauty shop today so i’m sure he will be looking for something stinky to roll around in…
g’nite all — happy dreams
Good evening, all. We’re winding down the day and getting ready to have a quick meal at almost midnight! Oh, the carefree life of the DFH.
Suzanne, Leo the cat came out in the courtyard garden with me today and made sweet love to the 7 Hills Cat Mint. Then rolled on the warm beach stones and stretched out in the sun. !!
Mr.Bill has a question. I’m going to cook shrimp. :) Sweet dreams to you and Token.
Bon jour Suzanne, Is it just me or does the drummer on that last piece of music, Girls with Guitars, resemble the drummer on the Ana Popovic music you sent to me. I know they all like the Euro scene but that is a big coincidence by my book??? So Ana Popovic, Grace Potter, Samantha Fish, I’m a hit with my male blues buddies, Ha Ha. Top of the evening to you.
Pleasant dreams, bw…!
Aloha, open and Mr. B…!
Hey Mary ;-)
Got a couple stories about both Newsom and Brown from someone who got active in Occupy Sac a few months after we both went downtown and you wrote a diary about it
So, during one of the occupy actions when the UC students were protesting possible tuition hikes, there were Occupy members who showed up to lend their support. And some of these people were retirement age, and well, it was a long day, so they had to use the restroom. And they were upstairs on one side of the rotunda, while the restrooms were on the other side. The problem was, Gavin Newsom was holding a press conference to publicize his support of the students, and the way was blocked by the media, his aides, and CHP officers. So, this other person from Occupy got as close as she could, raised her hand and pretty loudly said to Newsom that she had some seniors who needed to use the restroom. So, he instructed the CHP to clear the way for the people who had to use the facilities
A few hours later she decided she needed a press pass to cover actions that were happening at the Capitol, so she could blog about them. She didn’t have a blog of her own, and had plans to contribute to another website. So, she went up to one of the CHP officers who was manning the metal detectors at one of the entrances, and told him she needed a press pass. He said, “follow me” and they wound their way through the corridors for a bit, until they got to the governors office, and they walked in the outer door, then through the inner door, then introduced her to Brown’s personal secretary and said she needed a press pass
She gave her a form to fill out and said she’d give it to the governor to approve, because that’s how it worked at that time anyway
Not campaigning for either one, just relaying a couple stories
Hey, CTuttle. The shrimp are ready for a flash cook. We’re choosing to be willfully ignorant and enjoy these fat buggers! The home canned corn is hot. Corn loves coconut oil! That was good to learn.
