John is about to drop two brand-new albums…
John Mellencamp and Republic Records have “tied the knot,” so to speak, by announcing an unprecedented “lifetime” recording contract. Mellencamp will release the new effort Plain Spoken, his 22nd full-length album, in the fall. The album is described in a press release as “a stunningly elegant and soul-searching gem” that is produced by T Bone Burnett. Plain Spoken will be Mellencamp’s first new music since 2010’s No Better Than This.
Republic Records co-founder and chief executive Monte Lipman commented, “Not only has he served as an ambassador of social consciousness in America, but he has also provided the soundtrack of a generation. We’re thrilled to be working with John Mellencamp as part of this historic deal.”
Universal Music Enterprises continues to represent the artist’s extensive catalog. Mercury/UME will also release his new live album, John Mellencamp Performs Trouble No More Live at Town Hall, on July 8.
Meanwhile, Mellencamp will be playing a run of shows this summer, kicking off at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, OK for two nights on June 20 and 21. He has dates booked through August 1 in Windsor, ON. Fans can expect a more extensive tour once the new album is released.
