Christina Bianco — Total Eclipse of the Heart as sung by 19 divas.
What’s on your mind?
happy friday pups!
I totally missed this decade.
heya ce — ya didn’t miss much *laughing* how’s cleveland tonight?
According to Wikipedia, the song came in first in a 2013 UK survey of most popular songs to sing in the shower. Which, if I can say this without getting crossswise of our hostess, is, in my opinion, the ONLY place it should ever be sung.
Having two babies two years apart in 1981-1983, I didn’t see a single tv show, movie, art exhibition, or news show. We didn’t own a tv. Even years and years after its start, I just said to MrCE, I’ve never seen the first two seasons of the West Wing.
hey blue — how ya doing tonight? i was quite impressed by her impressions – esp the julie andrews one
heh! so agree.
*whispering* i’ve never seen a single episode…. don’t tell anyone
Ah — just as I thought: Bonnie Tyler did the 1978 song “It’s a Heartache.” Now THAT’s music.
OMG are you kidding me!!!????
Hands on hips, jutting forward. This has to change.
hahahaha! blue — ever see this literal video version?
truth not a one
oh my — ce are you giving me The LQQK???
shit, what i do now? no one has ever turned it around and used it on me
Suzanne, Suzanne, this is THE most important tee vee show that EVER happened to raging Democrats. Now, I know that you used to be a Republican, so that may be the reason. However, shucks, I’m almost choking. We have to see this most beloved show of Progressives and Democrats. And, BTW I’m now in love with Aaron Sorkin’s new show, The Newsroom.
OMG, Why, yes, I AM!
jeebus ce your tone of font using my name twice is even more effective than my father’s use of my full name when i was a kid… you gave me shivers
ok, i’ll keep an eye open for it on the teevee machine. i don’t have netflix or anything like that so…
I tried to get through the video, but it was like trying to eat a dish that contains one ingredient I don’t like — in this case, the song itself — which claws its way past all the other flavors and manifest itself. Ack, I really did try.
Just got back from a few days in New York, seeing family. This was the first week back at school, which means getting up at the crack of dawn five days a week. Gripe gripe grumble grumble.
I’m a little pooped, so don’t know how long I’ll be here, but thought I’d hang out for a while.
Me neither. Haven’t had a working TV since 2002.
That clip you posted Suz is brilliant.
I never saw but a couple episodes of West Wing either. I liked it, but had other things going on. So there.
how was your trip?
I don’t either, and I just asked MrCE if the first season is on YouTube. Apparently not. So sad.
When whispering fails, you can also use spelling against your adversaries.
No one is allowed to outloud B-E-A-R-S around my honey bee hives. Must spell because every knows Bs can hear but they can’t spell.
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight? so glad you liked it — i think she is quite talented
*heh* Getting brave there aren’t we now, Christine…? ;-)
That’s positively surreal.
*hands on hips*
see ce — i’m *not* the only one
hey ecahn — have there been b-e-a-r-s around your h-i-v-e?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
It was fine until the last day when my father’s unfailing ability to exasperate me wore through my veneer of unflappability.
i featured a better version of it up top several years ago — totally surreal
Go girl! More later!
Good on you. I didn’t get rid of mine until about 2011, when my high-paid TV consultant (retired CBS sports camera man, married to my niece’s SIL) advised me that my flickering 30 year old, $125 model, might short out & cause house fire.
sigh – sorry to hear that dood
What’s odd is that I still have it on my living room table. At some point I should take the plunge and throw it and its corollary devices out.
I’m having a MEN, type of day. We can’t live with them or shoot them either. Sorry tut and blue.
at least it is not sitting on top of another tv set
only takes one married woman on the jury tuez….. only one
Ummn, not that it matters or anything, but how’s your aim?
This is a feminist conspiracy!
Aloha, Suz, bw, and lln pups…! West Wing was a great series, well written, with stellar actors/actresses…! Maybe Hulu might have ‘em, or netflix…!
N-O. But they are spotted in the neighborhood and my bee guy is paranoid about them.
Ditto on b-l-i-g-h-t on tomato plants. Mine don’t have it this year, my first for trying them in the garden, but apparently local vegie gardens, CSAs, have been heavily attacked. One local CSA is folding shop because crops are so bad this year.
My suspicion is that they got a good offer on the property.
*heh* I swear, bw…! ;-)
Have you never heard of spelling bees?
Hi all. Just staying for a few minutes.
CE, Suzanne, I never watched West Wing, either, and I was a Dem then.
Good evening, Suz and lln pups..! Hilarious video, Suz, quite a talented young lady..!
okay, about TVs. I was totally down on TVs for most of the past 2 decades, yes decades. Then I upgraded to a large screen internet TV. No, I don’t have total access to the internet, at least not yet, but the number of quality OTA digital channels blew me away. I mean, I get AJE (which isn’t even available most places on paid TV), HNN, RT and a bunch of others via Daytona State University.
Hey CT, we just loved it. And I need to see it again, especially missing the first few episodes.
could be a combo of the two… with the weather outta whack i’m surprised i’m not hearing more from folks about stuff like blight — so many crops now are mono-crops — just one variety planted. we are a pest or disease away from our own version of the irish potato famine.
My aim sucks or I’d have picked another husband :’)
hey nix — how ya doing tonight?
hey past — glad you liked it. how’s slc tonight?
Ain’t that the truth.
Ooh, that’s cold, tuez…! ;-)
Congrats on your “frequent liar miles” quip about Obama on one of the NSA threads — very clever.
Sounds like a real femme fatale to me.
Loved that show, the best ever except for BBC shows.
Not sure how I am tonight. I think my brain is asleep.
West what..?? Never heard of it..! Seriously, never watched a full episode, couldn’t tell you what years it ran or how many seasons either. Fiction/fantasy was not my style in those horrible years.
Ah, thanks, blue.
Your nemesis is leaving the shores of the lake.
How about in these horrible years?
I’d vote for Martin Sheen if he decided to run, nix…! Heck, if Ray-gun could do it…! ;-)
I wasn’t the only woman on the jury-2d degree murder-but I single-handedly hung it. Other 11 wanted to convict.
Well, I guess no one has watched ‘The Newsroom.” So damned exciting that we have to tape and watch twice.
Don’t care if my bees hear or can spell. It’s the critters that matter.
is that on hbo? i dont get premium channels
puffy clouds and moon peeking out every now and then; temps in the 70′s tonight. I’m fixin’ to sleep on the trampoline in the backyard tonight. Not many stars to watch, but the crickets are in full tune..!
have you any theory about what is happening to honey bees
You mean Tbogg?
We’re committed enough to each other, that our disagreements are fodder for our own jokes. If that makes any sense. After about 20 years and all…
Isn’t that Sorkin’s latest series, CE…? I don’t get HBO either…!
Neo…neo…neonicotinoid pesticides or something like that.
Yes, it is. The Newsroom makes me cry. it is that good. Really.
how cool! do ya do that often in the summer?
I watched the first two seasons on On Demand not long ago. Most of the acting is outstanding, I thought.
Sounds a lot like my marriage, tuez…!
Of course it makes sense.
I could never resist a man who made me laugh.
x2 for these horrible years, ncbb. Haven’t read a fiction book since the 90′s. Real events being much stranger than any fiction lo these past dozen years.
its getting close to the airing of the new season of downton abby in england — will you watch it while you are there?
Probably. Gee, whodda thunk pesticides would kill bees? /s
We probably watched the 3-end seasons.
I love that one, but I never remember to watch. Again, thank goodness for On Demand.
Ooh that is a good question. I’ll ask my hot, Stella.
my friend, Stella (not hot)
You are going to England? neat.
if ya do no spoilers please…..
Yes, London and Shropshire. In Sept.
starts up on pbs right after new years iirc… they usually show the previous seasons shows in december in the masterpiece slot (at least that’s how they have done it up here)
i figured it was a typo for host
a few times every summer. Can never talk the missus into joining me, tho, it hurts her back to sleep on such a flexible surface.
We meet at the Science Museum of London.
Some fiction is enjoyable, though.
Not so much the clinbushbama years.
Though Clinton got away with it, as he does with everything because no one listens to poor people and the effects of NAFTA and repealing Glass Steagall were not felt for years. And Reagan and Bush 41 had raised taxes so many times, Bubba did not need to raise them.
So, in all, he looked like a hero. Then came 2008.
That made me think of Marlon Brando screaming ‘Stella’…! ;-)
Cool beans, you minx.
Ha ha! Hiya CT. My Stella would NOT appreciate that.
are the bugs a problem?
When I lapse into dour politics on an LLN thread, I know it’s time for me to go to bed.
Good night, all you wonderful posters. Have a beautiful rest.
Man, the lines of hops are amazing!
Think I’m going to bail as well. ‘night, all.
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 99 nix!!!
g’nite and happy dreams
Good night my friend.
g’nite blue — happy dreams
g’nite ce — happy dreams
Pleasant dreams to all the sleepy heads…!
Dang, Suz, over a hundred comments in under an hour…! ;-)
last night and the night before were in the 30′s iirc. tis the ebb and flow of the lake tut
When it rains, it pours…! Kinda like today’s weather here…! ;-)
no bugs on the trampoline – no mosquitoes, too dry and nearest open water is over a mile away. If I slept on the grass, however, I’d be inundated with tiny spiders that think stationary human skin is a good target.
Seems like all of the above, plus hype.
I haven’t delved into the science morass other than reading the 2 popular books written about CCD and viewing 2 wonderful films which touch on the subject.
Timing of intro & banning of neonicotinides & CCD is murky. That can’t be trusted because it is hard to figure out who funds the research. Environmentalists aver research funding is dominated by chem corps, but if that has been proved, I haven’t figured it out. Don’t doubt it, just not enough evidence.
My bee guy thinks the largest factor is stress of hauling industrial bees on tracter-trailor trucks around the country to pollinate monoculture, esp almond crop in CA in February, when the queens start laying.
CCD does not seem to be(e) prevalent among stationary hives with variety of foods.
Hype part of my comment refers to the issue of speed of collapse. If it were as bad as environmentalists suggest, most honey bees would have died a decade or more ago. Don’t know what the hidden agenda is.
On monoculture: has been going on for centuries. Think fawncy French wines.
Closer to home, think Jefferson going broke when tobacco depleted his soil as a shocker wake up.
Slave culture is inherently expansionary, as cotton, sugar, indigo, as well as tobacco, deplete soil and plantations have to acquire more land. Huge implications for U.S. civil war, possible alliance of Brits with Confederacy to reinstate cotton trade which supplied Brit mills, blockaded by Union (enter Egypt).
IOW, answer to your Q involves huge political, multinational considerations, not choosing a devil and vilifying him.
good nite ncbb, pleasant dreams.
never can predict. tis part of what i like — ya never know how (or where) lln is going to go
*shiver* no skitters is good but *shiver* … ya gotta walk on the grass to get to it right?
Wrote you a long email twice. Owing to 8 paragraphs disappearing after the first one fell into the black hole of cyberspace.
Agree or disagree, give me an attagirl for effort.
tis about time for me to head out myself folks. thank you for letting me hang out with ya
g’nite all and happy dreams
Nite Suz. Sleep well.
‘Nite to Christine and bluewombat. Pups are startin’ to turn in.
I did just respond to one of them…! ;-)
Check out cmk’s Juan Cole post… Why Egypt Fell Apart…
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
I wear shoes to get to the tramp and don’t leave shoes in the grass, they stay on the tramp next to the blanket.
Sleep well, Suz..!
Just read your response. Will get to CIA-consultant Juan Cole link when my brain is fresher.
This is a topic of current interest to me. Will change my mind if evidence to contrary becomes apparent.
I did not know that Morsi’s kids were Americans…! ;-)
Will check this out after lln, CT. Great mash-up today BTW..! Events in Egypt are very troubling, I don’t know where this is going. Heard on NPR today that one reason for deposing Morsi was he was harming the economy – any truth to that in your opinion?
Interesting what you can learn from the most obvious of sources.
Obvious learning, as I’ve mentioned many times, is my fave. You cannot know everything that is obvious, too many items in that list, but once it is pointed out to you, you never forget it.
He certainly didn’t help matters much in regards to the people, but, that sounds more like NPR propaganda, past…!
Nite all. Sleep well.
thanks, CT. I’m going to turn in now, you have a great weekend. Good nite eCAHN and have a great weekend..!
Sweet dreams, eCAHN…!
Pleasant dreams, past…! Don’t let the bed bugs bite…! ;-)
Good morning, pups. Mr. Blow and Ms. Collins are both off today, so we have Mr. Nocera flying solo. He’s busy playing Gunga Din to another industry, so we know that it’s not just BP. In “Merge Is What Airlines Do” he says it’s a little late to be complaining that another airline deal will hurt consumers. Actually, the airlines are doing a pretty good job of making consumers miserable, even before you factor in the TSA performance art…
Here he is, and
here’s Krugman’s blog.
The coffee, tea and cold drinks are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. I’ve reached the point where I just won’t get on an airplane any more. I passed on my 50th high school reunion because I’d rather cross the Andes on a prison bus (h/t to Hunter S. Thompson for that) than shoehorn my 5’2″ frame into a seat where even I have no legroom. And shuffle along in a line with no shoes or jacket on, and be scanned (or groped, your choice). So I stay at home, which suits me just fine. Have a great day.
very funny/talented lady that is. thanks!
thank you mafr — glad you liked it
