Esperanza Spalding — Jazz Ain’t Nothin But Soul, on Austin City Limits, 2009.
What’s on your mind?
happy wednesday pups!
Hey! Watching the Food Channel with lobster…
hey ce — i have on the local news. how’s cleveland tonight?
Oh! no news on all night so I don’t know. After coming home and watching ten minutes of Richard Engel in Egypt, I completely shut down.
jazz? did someone say Jazz?
I’ve got 5 hour onsite that’s practically in the same building I was working in back in 2004 on Friday. They lined up the interview team in under 24 hours. Looks good so far.
I am so afraid that he might be killed.
i’ve taken to ONLY watching local news and reading local papers online. huge reduction in my stress levels
hey wmd — woohoo! fingers and toes crossed for ya. how was that commute for ya?
yes. and even less.
me too. i don’t think i could stand it if a family member had that job
i read the posts on the fdl front page and tweet but really don’t pay much attention to the kinda stuff i used to obsess about — i totally burned out
Me too. It just hurts too much.
i did that commute for years, no problems. Which kind of gives away where I’m interviewing, but I will keep with my convention of not saying it directly.
i’m with jon oliver and his rants about it being way too forking soon to be discussing the 16 presidential race… tomorrow is his last night hosting – iirc they take their usual 2 week summer break and after labor day with jon stewart’s return
i’ve grown quite accustomed to oliver style and sense of humor – gonna miss that
gotcha — as long as the commute works for ya then that is all that matters
how soon after the on-site would you know?
Shame on you. Lobster is a butter delivery vehicle.
Raising my plate for lobster.
Think I’ll get one next supermarket big run. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard one scream to death in the steam pot.
Julia-CIA-agent-Childs has a great recipe for steaming live lobsters. Involves white wine, vegies like carrot, celery, onion, garlic. Yum.
Given the speed they’re moving I expect middle of next week. maybe offer Tuesday, negotiate and accept Wednesday, get written offer Friday.
hey ecahn — how’s the hudson valley tonight?
that would be so sweet! given the speed that they assembled the team for the onsite, does that indicate they are really really really interested?
My Williamsburg-living son has been into buying lobster. We talked a bit about the “processing” part (the killing).
I saw Julie on tv last night. Amazing.
Decades ago, came across interview of guy who provided protection services for R&F. The point of his book was how to wend your way betw real threats & paranoia. And how to protect yourself against real threats.
He recommended NOT watching local news which is focused on your next door neighbor’s murder with her door locked, blah blah.
I had long before stopped tracking local news in Manhattan, all oriented in the paranoia direction.
In mid-Hudson, most news is about home building on green space. Gives me hives, so avoid that.
I now have enough local friends to clue me in when something iffy going on. For example, a couple of robberies a mile down the road. Seems like same house, daytime, blah blah. Took to locking my door when I went out during the day. Don’t know if the perp has been caught or not, but had a laugh that the same house, unlocked, was hit twice.
g’nite ce – happy dreams
Best weather ever. Went on a 5 mile walk/hike with my 80-something friend today. Was exhausted when got back to house, that zzzzzzz’d. Don’t know how late that will keep me up, but whatever.
i’ve always been a news junkie and i went way overboard during the boosh years. last year when i broke my leg, i had to go cold turkey. when i got off the hard stuff, i realized there was no way i could go back to my old ways. i watch the local news reports on all 4 local stations — switching between them in the afternoon and then only one station at right. by rotating through, i figure i get a pretty good handle on oregon stuff — i’ve learned a lotta geography by sitting with google maps during the broadcasts looking up locations.
i wish i had a walking buddy. i need someone who is really good at nagging *laughing*
I hope so. you saw on my FB post that they are aware of false negatives and want to be careful to avoid them (type II errors – saying no hire when they should say hire). A lot of the hiring process is to avoid Type I error, false positives which leads to a bad hire.
Got dissed on another thread for enjoying watching my local hummingbirds food fight over the feeder, which they’ve discovered this year.
Feel no need to apologize on my environmental bona fides. Those who would criticize me need to get a life.
fingers and toes dood, fingers and toes. i can’t wait to hear from ya how it went
The other amazing thing about my 80-something hiking buddy is that she is so much more open to different ways of looking at surface events.
She’s a relatively newbie in my life, one of those serendipities. I feel lucky.
those serendipities are precious… i love it when they happen
Thanks for not saying who they are, I imagine you have figured it out.
suspicions only…. and i’m really good about trying to keep confidentiality stuff confidential. 24 years at the pd and 6 years here so its pretty much second nature now
I have been blessed with more than my share.
May have to declare surrender.
Nightie night all.
shit — weather dood said its gonna be humid through friday
ugh — another reason to be glad i’ve got an a/c unit
surrender is not always a bad thing
g’nite ecahn — happy dreams
i’m not feeling well — like i may be fighting a bug or something. i hope you will forgive me for bailing early tonight.
g’nite all and happy dreams
Wow. Esperanza Spalding is amazing … total bad-ass.
Thanks for that.
