What’s on your mind?
happy Wednesday pups!
Alerted those on prior thread.
What are you up to tonight?
I went on nice walk with elderly friend today. Scroll down to third item to get perspective from ground level,
hey ecahn — wow, that’s forking gorgeous! what a wonderful way to spend a day with a friend. how was the weather?
Beautiful! And thanks for the ideas about freezing stock. Yum.
Hi Suzanne! We were doing food stuff downstairs. Fun. How is your lovely town tonight?
hey dearie — it was overcast with skies clearing this afternoon. loved the high of 73 here and its already down to 66. good sleeping weather.
how was the coast today?
We’ve had prolonged June Gloom. I’m not complaining. I stay out of the sun when possible, and I no longer love the heat, so the gloom is quite pleasant.
Working tomorrow, so I’ll probably quietly slip away in a bit.
Looking forward to my county fair which starts tomorrow. I’ve set Tuesday aside to spend the day watching kids show their animals, eating fair food, watching horse shows….. and special treat: Seeing Air Supply do a matinee performance. Yes, I’m old, but you didn’t ask, did you? :0
Weather couldn’t be better. 80 high during day, mid-60s at night.
My friend & I had a leisurely lunch after.
Gotta call on my cell while we were ordering. It was my contractor. He has done extensive and fabulous work for me since 1989. Now projects are down to minor stuff, he has aged (haven’t we all) and has been working on the same house for a year.
I gave up begging & pleading, or at least tried to. When I called him to inform him of the list for this year, blah blah.
As I said, he finally called me back to drop by on Thursday to look over the small stuff. When I answered the phone, he identified himself. I jerked his chain: Lee? Lee who? Fell for it for one exchange, then figured out what I was doing. My walking/lunch companion & I had a laugh when I got off the phone.
Does anyone know anything about septic tanks? Yes, I had to ask.
But I’ll blunt that blow with this news: A new season of Breaking Bad is to start on the 11th.
spocko was saying the same thing about june gloom up there last night. what fun! are you going to ride any rides?
ha! what did you have for lunch?
hey tuez — i know a wee bit from having one at the cabin in the mts and having to have repairs done shortly after i bought it and again when i was selling it. what kinda problem you having?
Oh, no, I do not do rides anymore. If I bring the boys down, I would happily do bumper cars. Big rides are just wonderful memories. Best roller coaster is still the one at the Santa Cruz. Humane.
I mentioned that my daughter and I took the boys to the Balloon Festival in Santa Paula. All they wanted to do (they’re 4) is play arcade games. I was so afraid they would win a gold fish! Daughter and I laughed because she brought home a gold fish from a fair….we named it Jellybean and it lived for six years! Died, sadly, in the winter in Chicago. I kept it frozen in the freezer (well labled!) til the spring thaw when we could have a proper burial in the back yard.
Aloha, Suz, eCAHN, Dearie, and lln pups…! My Vacay is now officially over and done with, now that I’m back in Hilo town…! ;-)
Local county fair, 1-3/4 miles down the road, opened today. Is dinky, so I don’t go. However, 2-3 years ago Guinness world record size blueberry was on display so I had to see that.
The 4-H animals are actually terrific, but there is not that much to take in. I’ll have to think of animal husbandry questions to ask. I’m a moron on that subject.
We’ve lived here 5 years and the septic tank has not been cleaned out. Was told it was cleaned out right before we moved in. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve noticed that if I use a lot of water, like cleaning, or it rains a lot, toilet will “clog”; however, if I give it a couple hours it flushes with no problem. I don’t use 2-ply but cheap old Scott’s cause a couple decades ago I decided running around the house with a plunger was not fun. Last night, I cleaned the bathroom and last thing I did was clean toilet and it “clogged” with nothing in it but bowl cleaner. So, wondering if the septic tank is full.
aloha tut — how’s hilo town tonight?
Got an experience with one. What is your Q?
Uh-oh…! Do ya need a visit by a ‘honeypot’, tuez…?
it may need to be pumped out. or you could have roots of some sort clogging the line but they have to pump it out to check for that … have you used any ridx or other septic product?
It was surprising clear for Hilo town, which is nice…! ;-)
The dog I had as a kid died in the winter and my dad put her in a garbage bag in the garage until spring. Problem is, although she stayed frozen we had a flood and the garage flooded and she floated in the garage, in her bag. Then she was put in the freezer.
No wonder families are dysfunctional. The best intentions and all…
Chicken salad wrap, apricots, other fancy stuff.
Ate the whole thing, though would usually eat 1/2 & take rest home.
Tonight for dinner, had BLT. Last bacon from last year’s 4-H pig, lettuce & tomato from my garden. Yum.
sweet…. iirc, you were on the other side of the island for the reunion — was the weather there different than on your side?
Good evening, Suz, eCAHN, Dearie, tuezday and any pup lurkers..! Good to see you all..!
yummy lunch and dinner — sounds like a good day all the way around ecahn
I have no clue the size of it. Since this was originally a 50s style one room cracker box, I’m assuming it’s 900 gallons.
hey past — how’s slc tonight?
I use Rid-X when I remember to. May 2 or 3 times a year.
I had a spectacularly clear view of the Volcano and Mauna Loa as we headed back home, and even Mauna Kea was impressive with only a few clouds obscuring the peak…! ;-)
it was 5 years between my pumpouts… and the pump dood said that it was pretty full and wudda been due for pumping soon when he pumped it for the inspection. i don’t recall how big the tank was
Call a professional. There should be an access point which prof can use to assess what the problem might be. Ask about leach field. Do online search about how these systems work.
Mine was installed over 30 years ago. Was here with my newborn son to see that it actually happened. Weekenders for most of the time, now single senior.
Had it pumped 15 years ago and was told I could have gone another 15 years.
Each dysfunctional family seems to have its own style, as it were. “:)~
bet you have a huge tank to go with that big house. my wee tank was for a 2 bed 1080sq ft cabin
*heh* Ya still gotta love ‘em, however dysfunctional they may be…! ;-)
Thanks, CT, for sharing some of your family reunion with us. Sounds like you all had a lot of fun.
Cooled off to the 70′s tonight with clear skies after a relatively hot afternoon. Crickets are chirping in the back yard. All in all a pleasant evening.
Our UTSR group has been collecting comment forms the last few days and evenings for an environmental impact study on a ‘utility corridor’ the BLM wants to grant for oil shale development in northeastern Utah. We’re mailing them to BLM tomorrow. Basically a delay tactic, to make them consider so many things that it prevents starting utility construction for two or three more years.
Didn’t know enough to ask intelligent questions when system was changed.
A friend with a mother/daughter house, with 6 grandkids, is having septic problem. They bought the house about a year ago, is in line with water drainage from top of land, probably 1000′ above her, going into lake probably 200′ below her.
All these situations are different. One of the problems of home ownership is to figure out what your specific problem is and how to solve it.
Local professional you trust is key. You could be right Suzanne that we got a good one.
It’s still not over yet, my Sis and Bil are most determined to get the Better Half on a charter boat…! ;-)
Delay is good tactic.
do ya mail them registered so there is proof of delivery?
all vacations must come to an end sometime. Glad you enjoyed yours to the utmost, CT..!
You guys are kinda confirming my idea that the tank needs pumped. The toilet in this house has never backed up before and the fact it happens after heavy water usage…
I have googled it but get lots of commercial sites. When I was growing up we had a leech bed and my dad put the fear of god in us to never put anything nasty down the drain. I even empty the crock pot into the garbage can, rather than the sink, since I don’t have a disposal. It wouldn’t surprise me that I could get 2 extra years out of a septic tank.
i agree — each one is different and each state and county and city have their own regulations about what has to go where etc.
tuez — you should ask around for recommendations local to you. the first time i had a real jerk for a septic dood – the second time my real estate agent and neighbor both recommended the second guy who explained a lot.
that’s a good point, Suz. Not sure, but I’ll ask tomorrow morn. I did scan them all into a pdf so we have an electronic record. We’re also going to email them to the BLM.
excellent! how many forms did you collect?
Cashing in for the night.
g’nite ecahn — happy dreams
evening, Suzzzz – how’s everything up north?
Aloha, past…! Keep up the great work, Please delay, delay, delay…! ;-)
hey ppd — still dry and there’s been dry lightning strikes east of the cascades tonight and also up in seattle area. how’s monterey bay tonight?
we tabled at a few local events and collected 62 forms and passed out dozens of others which we hope folks will send in themselves. BLM allows emailed comments too. There was a public presentation the week before last which was attended by quite a few interested groups, incl folks from Sierra Club. Comment forms were available at the presentation, there were people putting forms into a box at the BLM table, and I assume many were also taken home.
sweet! nice job dood!!!
good, thanks – just relaxing tonight. Getting ready for Saturday’s Marin Century ride
woot! what’s the weather forecast for the ride?
Aloha, PPD…! ;-)
thanks, CT..! Was reading last nite’s lln, did your sis & bil manage to talk missus CT into the “three hour (fishing trip) cruise”?
Q: do bike racers need to carbo load a day or two before the race, similar to marathon runners? excuse the uninformed question, I don’t know much about bike racing.
San Rafael’s Saturday forecast is 52F low and 76F high — if this is so, we’ll be fine. It’s the high pressure 90F+ weather that makes this ride difficult.
sweet! nice riding weather dood
Hiya Past, It’s not a race for us, just a well supported tour with lots of climbing.
For the 200K and 200 mile routes, I’m sure carb loading would help, though.
It looks like she’s game now, past…! Now, whether she steps foot on the boat or not, is yet to be seen…! ;-)
tis about time for me to head out pups. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight
g’nite all — happy dreams
Sweet dreams as always, Suz…! *g*
sleep well, Suz..!
night Suzzz – be well
This is our route on Saturday. http://www.marincyclists.com/Resources/2013%20Maps/100.pdf
*heh* I’m going whether she does or doesn’t…! If the Bil can get my bookworm Sis to leave her kindle behind, I’ve got to be there…! ;-)
