Elvis Costello and Mumford & Sons – The Ghost of Tom Joad & Do Re Mi Medley
What’s on your mind tonite…?
Aloha, lln pups…! I Will Wait…
I’m happy people are (slowly) starting to recognize that the wealthy have stolen trillions in pension funds from America’s workers – possibly the greatest theft in history.
We’ll see whether people will still fall for the old plutocrat trick of burning down the business/having a war to cover their tracks.
That and people are returning to paying attention to some of the things from which Snowden was supposed to distract them. That’s good too.
Between the end of a great Tour de France and NASA posting the world’s best selfie…not a bad weekend.
Aloha, EV…! What a cool pic…! Too bad the 24/7 news cycle is still subsumed with the royal baby and other shiny baubles…!
Peace Love And Understanding…
That is a cool pic.
That is a waaay cool picture.
Hey CT, EV and tuez,
Aloha! Rained like a “sumabitch” today.
As someone put it earlier today: another royal pain in the ass.
I amuse myself with the thought that if the royal couple took videos of the birth, the law now deems the prince and princess to be in possession of child porn.
Royal child porn, though.
Okay, it appears it’s fatster’s b’day, so everyone needs to head over to the roundup and give our intrepid explorer of every nook and cranny of the Internet a happy birthday.
Oh that won’t be just today — how about years!
Is that here? If not, can you send a link?
Aloha, tuez…! How’s Floridaze doing tonite…?
Aloha, eCAHN…! How’s the Hudson Valley…?
Here ya go.
Aloha, Christine…! Here’s the linky to fatster’s roundup…!
My wifi sux…! ;-)
Roll Away Your Stone…
I don’t want to go far down this line, but there are websites that claim that royals are up to their you-know-whats in pedophilia.
Somewhat cooler, very manageable, a little needed rain tonight.
Everyday I Write the Book…
Today started out shitty but has improved-nothing like a dog with too much hair with the shits. And she seems to be able to hear the hose running from 10 miles.
Oh what joy, tuez…! I presume ya finally got her cleaned up…! ;-)
Bragging about my tomato plants. Put in two (one beefstake, one cherry) for the first time this year. They are now 5′ high, have lots of green starters on them, and are healthy. I was reluctant to do serious vegies; garden is mainly herbs; herbs are weeds, accounting for my prior success.
Lover Of The Light…
sorry for getting lost in the utubes last night tut
Gotta cat hairball story, but won’t go into details. :-)
I’ve got a cat hairball story I’m trying to remember…but I’m kinda fuzzy on the details.
Fortunately, she will eat and drink damn near everything. Kaopectate stopped her up.
Cleaned up, oh yeah, have hose.
My cat doesn’t have hairball issues, as long as she doesn’t feel the need to eat grass, fortunately.
I’ll keep her worm issues to myself for now. But if you ask…
Hey all, doing a drive-by, haven’t read one comment…but absolutely fell in love with the Most Awesome video.
Thank you, CTuttle. I needed that energy lift. :)
I have a friend who can’t resist puns. I give her, and now you, the LQQK.
Aloha, Suz…! No probs…! It is addictive…! ;-)
a really good pun is worth bringing forth “the LOOK”. just saying
Aloha, open…! How’s the Sound tonite…!
Little Lion Man…
Hair is not digestible. Cats eat grass so they come out the upper way.
There is an item in one of my bathroom books, might be Darwin Awards, of woman who chewed her hair. Died. Autopsy showed football size (or maybe softball size) hairball in her stomach.
NOT interested in your cat’s worm issues. :-) or is it :-(
where were you in the Tubes that you got so lost ? Enquiring minds want to know. :)
Enquiring minds just scored 4 fresh Dungeness crab that walked in the door. Crabbing season!
I fuckin’ heart the Northwest!!!
Unfortunate thing about factory agriculture wrt tomatoes – since for over a generation tomatoes have been selected not for flavor (or nutrition) but for the ability to be picked raw, transported, and later gas-ripened, people now have been conditioned to believe that hard and flavorless is the way tomatoes are supposed to be.
I asked a farmer at a farmers’ market who was selling tomatoes whether he had any beefsteaks and he said he doesn’t even plant them because he can’t sell them – and restaurants refuse to buy them because the customers complain the beefsteaks must be “rotten.”
I love that song. Our daughter put it on a CD she made for her ol’ folks. I’d already heard it because of you. I love that song!
Not complaining, just funning.
eeewwww, that’s just gross.
want some dead Dungeness crab, cooked in sea water, guts out. I don’t like cooking crab guts in.
you will find out on my lln posts this week — found some wicked pissah tunes
wicked pissah tunes
Is that Apple’s New England-local version of iTunes?
Okay, wait. I’ve got a story for fans of the boss. Need to hunt it down.
Sounds great, Suz…!
I’m into the etymology of tomato breeding.
It’s worse than you know. It’s not just that they were bred for handling & shipping (and used at major league BB if they ran out of hardballs). Tomatoes are NOT supposed to be red on top. If they are, even if they are otherwise like what I used to eat as a kid, it means they have also been fawncy bred and lost flavor in the process. Real tomatoes are supposed to have yucky looking tops, like brown grooves.
If my seedlings, now jack-in-the-tomato-stalks, go to successful harvest this year, I’m going to buy seedlings next year from local organic farmer whose tomatoes look yucky on top but taste heavenly.
I also figured out that the smell I want to replicate from my childhood comes from the plant smell not from the tomato smell.
Okay, fans of Bruce.
I admit to being a Jersey girl. Have loved Bruce since the 70s. Seen many shows. Listening to him is not a daily “thing”. I catch a show every few years.
Not saying that cultivating “The Look” is a bad thing. It’s served me well.
Pump it up…
Ooh, great catch tuez…!
I saw Bruce in ’79, I think. An incredible concert at Red Rocks in Colorado. I liked a few of his songs before seeing him in concert.
What a Show Man. It was the best, turned me into a Springstein Fan.
Yes, the love apple plant definitely has a very different smell than the fruit!
And speaking of things that are supposed to be red on top, here’s Alvin Lee playing “Big Red” on that tiny little stage at The Fillmore:
One Of These Days ~ Ten Years After ~ Live 1975
I misbehave with names. Had unexpected guests yesterday, 20-something son of good friend. Last I saw him was about 2 decades ago, and I had not met his girlfriend. Name example: Blankie Moon. (Ban Ki-Moon, who might have been visiting FDR home when my guests were earlier in the day). I have gotten to that-certain-age; did my name thing a couple of times, then apologized. The younguns took it in the spirit that was offered.
I’d love to catch a show at Red Rocks.
Heh. When I clicked on your link, it started with an ad for R&H Cinderella. Didn’t know R&H wrote a Cinderella.
Oh yeah, right on!!
I was just thinking about 10 Years After the other day. Crazy. One of my favorite “raw style” bands from a raw age. My age.
Awake My Soul…
What a Show Man. It was the best, turned me into a Springstein Fan.
Springstein? Oy, his encore of “Hava Nagila” was so good you would plotz.
We have raised our YoungBloods well. We should take a bow.
*heh* Be nice, EV, there’s no spelling/grammar cops allowed at lln…! ;-)
It wasn’t a grammar cop thing, it was a Jersey thing. ;-)
I edit books I read. Besides substantive marginalia, I cross out adverbs. I have a pet peeve with connectivitus. And, or, but, so, of course, indeed, to name 6.
wait, what,….is this a “subtle message beyond Openhope’s pay grade? Hate when that happens…….:)
But just rock on
I inventory articles in my and my parents homes/environments as potentially Useful. I can tell you where a lot of things are that I’m not even remotely interested in. It just “catalogs”. Is that the “Same Thing Only Different” kind of thing Life throws at us?
*heh* Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood…
I remember things for a few years. Some I retain for longer, but can’t place where I learned the info.
Favorite learning is stuff that is obvious. Can’t discover every obvious knowledge for yourself. When someone points it out, you remember it forever.
On edit: Maintain list of books I’ve read. Spotty for late 1990s but thorough since. Can look at it and figure out where my info came from, if a book. If a webpost, not so much.
I do have a similar pet peeve, but at lln it’s a free-for-all…! ;-)
Oy, one of my “Life Anthems” ! Awesome to hear it in this format and again.
raises Rebel Spirit Fist ……of Awareness, :)
The idea that in New Jersey aging people would actually be going out to see local wedding band favorite “Bruce Springstein” made me laugh. “Springsteen? No, no – I wanted Bruce Springstein.”
“Born To Run” would have been his klezmer soundtrack to the Diaspora.
Someday girl I don’t know when
We’re gonna get to that place where we really want to go and we’ll walk in the sun
But till then
Jews like us baby we were born to run…”
Unnerstan. (That soft Islamic underbelly of Russia.)
Yes it is a free for all, and LLN has been most gracious in those safety zones.
I had the good fortune to catch this awesome concert at Red Rocks…!
Sunday Bloody Sunday…
*snort* Good one, eCAHN…!
Forgot to add good news. Cicada invasion gone for 1-2 weeks. Took cotton out of ears. 30 billion of these. Scroll down to sound button & click on second one.
I was young and had a different outlook on life when I saw Springstein.
It actually would be hard to see him this old in this venue.
I think I’m an Ageist. An Old Ageist. A person who wants the Olds to let the Young ones develope their talents and energies.
Free For All? I didn’t realize The Nuge was the FDL LLN mascot…that would explain a lot, though. ;-)
Well, it would be tough to watch Springsteen today try to sing songs about being a young man just beginning his battle against the world. I’m glad he’s wise enough and brave enough to write music that’s changed as he has.
Wow, I was just wondering what those little buggers were doing. We had our own, the Tent Caterpillar, EPIC invasion. Just kind of lost track of the cicadas because I don’t do MSM.
By the way, the Tent Caterpillars didn’t actually kill any healthy plants. My stripped to the buds [ they wouldn't eat buds, always left 2 untouched canes] The rose bushes produced an incredible blanket of roses and then started putting out new leaves to replace the “Tent” stripped leaves.
All that FEAR watching those fuckers crawl down from the tree tops and invade our every space, strip the leaves off our roses, alders and fruit trees, leave a horrid sense of Doom with their twitching Bug Thang……
and now we get a new growth and more bud production then ever. Our fears of apocalypse. ?
same as it ever was
*heh* Speaking of Nuge… Ted Nugent Blames Liberals for Detroit’s Bankruptcy…!
You must have had a hard time with Tolkien.
“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”
Here’s the book for you. Read it in 2008. Chapter on tent caterpillars. Figure out where the yummy stuff is by pheromone trail.
I read Tolkein (can’t imagine what I might have been thinking) when I was in college 40+ years ago. Didn’t do the edit thing then. To my credit, I read the James Bond novels in the same era.
First round. Would improve with more editing.
Shit. I’m up to my Cinderella eyeballs taking care of the Old Folks and learning to master Leg Ulcers.
Could you just shoot me the specifics? Can they be breaded and fried on harvest, or do you have to purge their intestines first? Are they crispy enough to bother with???
While I don’t know (or care) if he meant it this way, if “liberals” (whatever that word means) were more willing to pick up a weapon and do something when a wrong is being done against society, things would be a whole lot better in not just Detroit but in America.
I was one of the very few people who read one Tolken book and didn’t see the point for more. Though I really liked the first one. As an escapist reading.
One last tune before I pack it in for the nite, from Glastonbury last month… Help From My Friends…
Will put your request on back burner. My bee guy is deep source on stuff that is edible. When he offers me raw honeybee larva and tells me that it tastes like vanilla, I politely turn him down.
Good nite, CT. Sleep well.
So what you’re saying is The Lord of the Rings really needs an “executive summary”?
“Hie thee hence, you leafy narc.”
Aah, but by their very nature, Liberals, are disinclined to resort to violence…! I’ll utilize nonviolent civil disobedience, I refuse to use violent means…!
What an excellent song. Thank you.
There was a cult movie in the 1980s about eating insects and other bizarre stuff. Think the sound track was Phillip Glass. This is a trailer I found but not sure that is the movie I remember..
Done for now.
I’m out, everyone. Good luck with the born-in-the-usa free for all of tomatoes, and cicadas, and tent caterpillars, and hobbits, and indeed conjunctions that is LLN. ;-)
Well, I shall bid y’all another fond adieu…! Mahalo for the great company tonite…! And I look forward to what Suz has on tap tomorrow nite…!
Aloha Oe…! *g*
Just because they don’t want to resort to violence doesn’t mean Liberals can’t totally Fuck Things Up.
Both for us and against us.
Sweet dreams, EternalVigilance.
Good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite. :)
Good night, CTuttle. Thank you for being such a good host and MENA man. [ I'm not sure what I'd do without your gathered information and analysis]
I’d be dumber. So, I’d be better adjusted socially. I wouldn’t look at the people I know as being fuckin’ willfully ignorant. I would embrace their world view and be content.
