I love this video that fatster featured the other day. It is beautiful in its own right, but it sparked a couple memories for me.

When I was 8, my parents took us to Niagara Falls (slooowly I turned). The day we left I was a given my very own camera, a Kodak Brownie – looked kinda like this. And yes, I still have it somewhere, but like most of my stuff, I couldn’t put my hands on it at the moment, and there are those of you who can totally understand this. ANYhoo, we all hopped into ye olde Ford Country Squire and drove on to Niagara Falls – me, my parents, and my three siblings. Of course now I only remember some of what we did, but I did take pictures of some baby ducks (I think it was March) and there was a whirlpool(!!) which, from a creepy coloring book of my big brother’s, I knew would suck me down to the deep where some alien underwater dudes would snatch me for whatever unholy purpose they were here on Earth for (lol).

And we rode the Maid of the Mist, getting delightfully splashed in our slickers as we went through the Cave of the Winds.

And I was mesmerized by the colored lights used on the Falls at night.

In the end, I don’t think I took many pictures, but I did come home with a couple postcard portfolios of the sights and lights. I went to the Falls again, in my twenties, with a good friend who was from the West Coast and always dreamed of going there. It was wonderful fun and I took tons of pics that time.

Ever been to Niagara Falls? It was my most memorable little kid family vacation.

Ever seen the movie Niagara (so risqué back in the day!)?
